Yow!! Poor doggie....that had to hurt!

It sounds like he only pulled out one or maybe even two. The blood seems to be clotting, so he's probably not in immediate problems.

I would definitely keep an eye on the wound and monitor how much bleeding occurs. And I would definitely get your dog back to the vet to re-suture that incision. You surely don't want your dog to get an infection, and the longer you wait, the better the chance of that happening.

Two more stitches, Doc! To go!!

If you have an ordinary bucket (or large ice cream container) you can cut a hole in the base with a knife and some scissors, put some holes around the cut, pop the bucket over his head and tie it to your dogs collar with some string or something similar to stop it pulling the other sutures out.

If the sutures are a few days old, it may be ok to leave them out, as long as there is no more bleeding or tissue gapping. The main worry is bugs getting into the wound and causing infection. If you put a bucket on its head you can try putting some betadine (iodine) solution around and on the wound. Betadine is fantastic to use (if the dog can't lick at it) as it kills both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. You could also try and get some steri-strips (commonly called "butter-fly stiches") - usually available from pharmacies to hold to wound edges together, but they will be difficult to stay stuck to the skin if there is alot of hair around the infected area.

Try the above as an alternative for another trip (distressing sometimes for dog and you) to the vet. Don't worry about the licking to wounds as it's your dog's way of cleaning it and dog's saliva is quite healthy!

Good luck to you and pooch

Where are the stitches, what did he have done? You can use some styptic powder on it to help stop the bleeding and then put one of those cones on him. Your vet should have sent one with you so your dog wouldn't lick the stitches.

So, keep the area clean and keep an eye on it. Then, give your vet a call in the morning to see how they want to proceed. They might just say the same thing, keep the area clean and don't let him scratch or lick the area.

Good luck!

Vet ASAP
My dog did that when the dumb *** vet didn't put an E collar on him after neutering surgery it lead to big problems he had to stay longer & have anasthesia all over again a few days later & too much can kill them, he was out of it for a week or so & I was an emotional mess. When they redid it they had to use surgical steel wire & it looked as bad as it sounds, just awful.Go to a decent vet right away so no infection starts.
Good luck to you & your baby...

Take him to the vet. First thing tomorrow. If he pulled out his stitches, he can get a bad infection and his wound won't heal properly. That "gel" you see is more than likely tissue.
