all mouthwashes have certain germ killing agents. listerine has some alchohol and is great for short term. so is the crest, but nothing out there works twelve hours except under strict tests. the mouth will not stay clean for more than a few minutes because we open it whenever we speak, and sometimes when we breathe. it takes a while for the bacteria to develop any odor, but our mouth is never really clean.

Listerine should be better. It is not so much the alcohol that kills germs, but the phenolic compounds such as Eucalyptol and Thymol that does the job. And, Listerine has proven results from double-blind studies.
