Good for you!!!
I am always recommending that people (particularly people on a small budget) ask friends and family what they could borrow to use for a wedding. People have all sorts of beautiful things stashed away in a drawer, and would be thrilled to loan it for a special occasion.
Tablecloths, silver, serving dishes, linens, fancy candlesticks, etc etc are things that you could borrow. Just ASK! And everything does not have to match!
Even plants. I borrowed some potted ferns and unusual plants from a friend to use in a back yard wedding last August. And Christmas lights! Everybody has a few strings laying about.
Thanks for bringing this up, Miss DB.

The mailbox I used in my wedding for all the cards we got was one my aunt had used for her mail for years and years. We spray painted it silver and added silk flowers to the top and it looked great! Since then it's been used in 4 other weddings and an anniversary party.
The pew bows were used in at least 2 other weddings. The faux toperaries, baskets of flowers, and pillars in 2 or 3 weddings.
My dad found a huge trash bag full of table cloths on the side of the road. They must have fallen off a dilivery truck or something. They were used in my sister's wedding and my cousin's as well.
My mom has kept all the stuff and lends it out to anyone who would like to borrow it. She feels that since she has it why should someone else buy it.

If she's certain and determined to marry this man or woman, i does not lend her the failings, i'd supply them to her as her wedding ceremony modern-day. trust me you at the instantaneous are unlikely to have any use for the stuff except you promote it on eBay..except for sure you're already planning on divorcing your fiance and marrying some different person quickly! The gown will flow out of want, the garter receives tossed, and the decorations will collect dirt. certain your sister is a loser.. yet she's nevertheless your sister. My mom wore my aunt's wedding ceremony gown back in 1945.. it type of feels purely in the near previous that persons get the concept a wedding ceremony gown is something sacred that ought to purely be worn by technique of one man or woman! see you later as you get to placed on it first... have an exceptionally good wedding ceremony, bypass it alongside, and want it brings your sister success and happiness!

No, it's a great idea that more people need to consider when planning a special occasion or celebration! I know lots of people that borrowed stuff, and it worked out great! Hey, as long as it matches with your theme, you like it, and it's not too crazy, why not? It just makes perfect sense! Seriously, if it's free and won't take up space you don't have, you just can't refuse.

I have done this quite a few times...it works out great, plus it makes the people that you get the items from feel like they are really making the party better and more special using personal touches. At least that's how it has gone with me.

when i got married i even borrowed my wedding gown.
when my girlfriend was married she borrowed everything for the reception.
silver serving pieces, tea service, from all her mother's friends and relatives.
dinnerware and crystal, it was kinda cool, she had eight guests per table and borrowed a complete set of dinnerware from various friends and family. so every table had its own 'design'. one table had old country rose dinnerware, one had white dinnerware with gold trim, one had dishes from portugal, ...... well you get the idea. same with crystal, some were pinwheel pattern, etc.
she borrowed flatware from everywhere and everyone! she borrowed the tablecloths from the church, and she borrowed vintage tea cups and saucers from all of us to place on the table with the silver tea service.
it was a charming, eclectic decor, and while i wouldnt do it, it worked perfectly for her. and it suited her personality!

Not a bad idea but most people rent those things form the caterer, not buy them.
