Cognac, named after the town of Cognac in France, is a brandy, which is produced in the region surrounding the town. It must be made from at least 90% Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, or Colombard grapes. The rest of the cognac can consist of ten selected grapes. However, most cognac is made from Ugni Blanc only. It must be distilled twice in copper pot stills and aged at least 1/2 to 2 years in French oak barrels in order to be called cognac.I also have some bottles of cognac,it is very nice.Examples like Hennessy XO,Landy XO,Courvoisier XO Imperial and Gautier XO.

Cognac is a region in France, famous for the "brandy" produced there. By law, only brandy produced in that region of specific grage varieties can carry the name "cognac". Similarly, brandy produced in the "Armagnac" region of France is called "armagnac". All others are just brandy (=branwien in Flemish, meaning burned wine - distilled wine). Therefore, the alcoholic drink "cognac" is definitely French, it has to be produced according to specified criteria and aged in quality oak casks for a certain amount of time. The most commonly known cognacs are Martell, Henessy, Curvoisier, Remy Martin etc. Each company has different qualities of cognac such as, VO (very old), VSOP (very special old pale), champagne cognac, cordon bleu, three star etc.
