How bout reading to folks in a Nursing Home? Our elderly are one of our greatest learning assets and to often they are forgotten. Check out a book or two of short stories, visit your local nursing home and ask the nurse on duty which patients would most benefit from your visit. good luck and happy reading or just visiting....:)

Serving 5 hours at your local hospital would be a good way to do this project. Of course there are other ways to go about "community service." You could clean the highways for 2-3 days. I know our prison system here makes the inmates clean the roadways for a couple of days. If this answer doesn't help ya out, then maybe you could get in touch with your local city hall for recommendations. Good luck!

If you are looking for short-term or one-time opportunities, I suggest that you work through your local volunteer center. The volunteer centers specialize in finding one-time and short-term volunteer opportunities that match your interests and meet real community needs. The volunteer center can also provide you with the appropriate paperwork that you may need for school as well.

Here are some links to help you find your local volunteer center:

Good luck!

pick up trash at your local recreation center, or help with the after school kids programs, or maintenence, or help out at the library, although i think those library ones are for slackers. Me personally are 16 and has around 500 community service hours done :)

If 10% of the average $907 that Americans spent on Christmas gifts went to children in need, 42 million children could be helped for an entire year according to statistics provided to me during an interview with World Vision.

This year, I conducted an experiment, and asked for donations to World Vision and Heifer.org instead of Christmas gifts. Many folks simply chose to give me gifts anyway, but many did make donations instead, resulting in $137 going to these charities.

I also have a website where I sell art to support these two Christian organizations. The next time you need art for your walls, please consider my website. My personal favorite of my own work is Sunset over Florence12. Recently my aunt (an amateur photographer) and a friend have donated some of their work for this charitable cause, as well. If you know artists who might wish to join this charity model, please send them my way.

There is a set of 6 world maps on my art for charity website that represents the state of our world in terms of poverty, hunger, disease, education availability of electricity and longevity. You can get a full sized copy for your office or child from my website.
