If you shoot them and you got killed then I'm assuming that they'll be taking you to the morgue and not to jail and in that case you got others things to worry about..
I'm assuming you are describing a situation where you experience a home incursion, you fire a weapon at the criminal and you kill one of them.
There really is no one single answer for this as it depends on the instance.
Did you shoot the guy in the front or the back? Some states have recently enacted laws knows as the "Castle Doctrine" which basically states that your home is your castle and you can do whatever you feel is required to defend it. Other states will require the use of "equal force" which means if you shoot a guy armed with a bat or if you shoot an intruder in the back you could be arrested and charged. Some states actually require you to first attempt to run and escape before you are allowed to try to prtect yourself, your family and your possessions! How disgusting is that!
Most time this latter instance could be negated by simply stating in court that you feared for your life but again, each instance is distinct.
Also, was the firearm you used legal and registered in compliance with your local laws? If you used an illegally owned weapon you could very well be brought up on manslaughter charges as well as state and federal illegal gun ownership charges.
I would speak with a local police officer or criminal lawyer to gain a more clear understanding of what your local communities laws are.
And also, do not forget that you could be sued in civil court by the family of the intruder that you shot and killed as they attempted to break into your house!
What's even more scary is that they could win!!!

Depends on where you live. In California you have to give the intruders a chance to escape before you even shoot at them. You can actually get in more trouble then the intruders if the law determines that you or the intruders could have fled. Go figure. In Texas, shoot and ask questions later.

Do you mean you shot and killed the intruder. Everyone has the right to protect their family and home. The intruder is entering your house illegally. You got a right for self defense. But don't take my word for it, be wise and ask your police officer or your lawyer what is your rights in any case something like that should happen.

It really depends on the self-defense laws in your state. Some states require the victim to retreat or attempt to get away, and some allow deadly force to be used immediately upon the intruder entering your home. In many states, it also depends on whether the intruder is armed or unarmed. As far as killing someone for being on your property, you will go to jail. You can't shoot someone for hanging out on your lawn.

Here in Texas, you are considered a hero, and a protector of your home. I'm not sure about other places, though.

When you said and shoot them and got killed, we don't prosecute dead people, you should be OK.
