To me, that simply means he "CHOOSES" to have a great attitude about life, his God and fellow man. His attitude COLORS his life, his view of it and the way he lives. Would you rather have someone greet you with an "honest, genuinely kind and welcoming smile" or would you rather see them and have them start in with complaining and griping about the "little" things in life that we don't even notice, but here they are pointing them out? I'd much rather see the happy, and to me, blessed one.

To bless yourself for a Christian perspective is unrealistic. This is because a people are nothing without the grace of God. We cannot even breathe on our own because we're dependent on Him for air. Scripture reminds us that ALL good things come from God, not man.
