I did not like giving birth! I did love my children and thought whatever I had to go through to get them, I would do over. They were worth it! But the whole birth process sucks! It was painful and I did scream for drugs! My husband became fearful for his safety and left me in the room alone! (I could not even think of taking comfort from him because it really looked like he was enjoying himself...I was ticked!...lol! ) I had 3 epidurals and I had three beautiful healthy boys! They are all grown now. They were the best things that ever happened to me, and I feel the Lord blessed me with them! I don't want to focus on the pain it took to get them here, or the fact that I began to loose too much blood with the second one, or that they had given me twice the painkiller they should have and I went into shock with the youngest. Like I said, they were worth it and I would do it again if I had it to do over. Each one is the love of my life and has carved out their place in my heart forever!

Having a baby is no picnic, with or without epidural. Well it is not the actual birth that is hard, but the labor. If anybody tells you it is a breeze, they are not being honest. When I had my daughter, she was month and a half early. My pains were two minutes apart from start of labor because my placenta had pulled loose. I did not get epidural until I was dilated seven centimeters. After epidural I was fine. Afterwards, nothing too bad. Daughter had a seven pound boy last December, labor was not good. Epidural did not work. Having baby a breeze. No tearing, no cutting, no stitches. After birth at six week check up doctor told her you could not tell she had even had a baby. So everybody is different. Everybody has a different story. No matter if pain or not seeing that beautiful baby is well worth it. Good luck...

LOVE my daughter- Hated the whole process. But I almost died, so that could be why. I was induced with cervical gel that was supposed to take a week, it happened that night. I heard my water pop, but her head plugged me up so I didn't know if It had or not. The hospital moved her head & it all came out (WEIRD feeling !!!!) Then after 15 hrs of labor (2 hard) they took me in for an emergency c-section because she was stuck in my left hip bone (causing worse pain than the labor pains). I stopped breathing on the table- they called code blue- was intubated wrong- (my poor husband is having to watch all this through the window because they rushed him out) she came out not breathing- We were fine in the end though- That's the difference between a good doctor & a bad one. I had an awesome doctor that actually saved my life.
We're trying to get pregnant now. I get an automatic c-section. If I had to do the labor thing again, I don't think I would have another one. That was pretty horrific.
On the other hand. A co-worker of mine had a 2 hour labor's that she hardly felt & almost had the baby in the hospital hallway both times !!!

My water broke at home and went to the hospital. They were about to send me back home and wait for labor to start but was admitted after discovering that my blood pressure was high. They had to induce me the following morning because of the high blood pressure plus the water having being broken more than 24hrs (risk or infection). I dilated slowly and stopped at 8cm. Oh by the way, YES i had epidural. Helped alot...the good thing will labor pains is that they come and go so you have sometime in between to catch a breath and even laugh a little...maybe. I was at 8cm for a while so they decided to do a c-section. It turns out i was too small for the baby to go through. So i was informed that for my next babies i will have scheduled c-sections. Dont be afraid to go for pain killers..it wont make you less of a woman. By the way, sometimes it helps to check how deliveries have been for your mom, sisters, aunts. Sometimes it tends to be similar. My sister also had the same problem as mine...we were both too small and ended up with c-sections. Good luck to you, and am sure you will do fine...we all did.

I have 2 different accounts. The first was kind of a nightmare..lol! I was induced and only 1 cm dialated. So no pain meds for me for a very long time!! I had Stadol about 4 hours into labor which made me act drunk and didn't influcence the pain. When it was finally time for the epidural, I had hotspots (areas that the pain was still felt) on my entire left abd and groin. They had to keep bolus dosing me to get my pain controlled. I had no idea if I was pushing or not, and still wasn't able to feel my legs 16 hours after the delivery.
My second (at a different hospital) My water was broken ( i never went into labor with my kids!) I got the epidural an hour later. I was not in pain but still aware of contractions. About 35 mins after the epidural, I told the nurse I needed to push. She laughed and said "NO way! You were only 4 cm before the epidural!" I insited, she examined me and then had my mother hit the call light and told the nurses desk that we "Needed the dr. quickly!" By the time he got there, 10 mins later, the nurse had just delivered my daughter! I breastfeed and cuddled her for an hour or so, then WALKED to the bathroom! second time around was much better for me!

I was induced early as I had gestational diabetes. It was going from bad to worse until I had the epidural - a gift from God! Initially I so did not want one but then the pain was so bad that I gave in and it was the best thing I ever did, both for me and my poor husband. It actually made the whole thing enjoyable and I could concentrate on pushing out my beautiful son. The only drawback of an epidural was that I couldn't walk for about 8 eight hours afterwards as my legs were numb.

I have given birth twice and both experiences were different. My labour was short in both deliveries (5 hours for the 1st child and 2 hours for the 2nd) I had no pain releif for the first child as it happened quite quickly and only used gas on the second child. I tore and had to have 50 stitches (25 internal & 25 external) as the first baby was large. I used the shower for pain relief and it brought on the labour quite quickly, and lots of movement. Staying lying down doesn't progress the labour. I was very lucky and i have no horror stories of birth or pregnancy. I never had morning sickness.

I think alot of it has to do w/ the people involved w/ your delivory. I didn't have an awful experience w/ my first delivory, but I wish it was better. I had a doctors appt the day I went into labor. I had no signs of labor (that I noticed), but when I got checked I was 3 cm dialated. About 15 min after I got home, I started feeling contractions (they stripped my membranes at the appt to help me along). A couple of hours later I went to the hospital, when the contractions started to hurt. When I got there I told them straight off the bat that I planned on having an epidural. They told me they do not give them to first time mothers because it usually stalled labor but they had something else they could give me called a walking epidura (interthical) When I first got it it was great, could feel my contractions but they didn't hurt, and I could get up and walk around if I wanted to. Well it stalled my labor anyway and had to recieve pitocin at 5 cm. It didn't last long either about an hour and a half, and they made me wait 4 hours before I could get another one. Then at 6 cm they decided to bread my water before the interthical. Well I guess when I sat up to get the shot in my back it was enough pressure to make me finish dialating and I yelled that the baby was coming out and they told me I was only 6 cm she wasn't coming out and made me sit there and wait to get the needles in my back. Then when they were done they tryed to leave the room w/o checking me. Well I yelled and they checked me just to see that I was right and fully dialated so I started pushing. Then the baby just started to crown and my husband ran the the bathroom to throw up. And let me tell you I felt every part of my delivory. I don't know if the midicine just didn't have time to take effect or it didn't work, but after I had her I was fine. With my second I was 3 days late and got to the hospital at 5 cm. They had no problems getting me an epidural, I just had to wait for the anisticioligist to get there. I had my water broken at 8 cm, and the dilevory was painfree and I was able to know what was going on alot more. The staff was very friendly and joked w/ us the whole time (I was fine cause I had the epidural so I didn't mind at all). I also had a good friend in the delivory room w/ me and my husband so we had alot more to talk about (she had 3 c-sections so I invited her along). And this time when they asked my husband if he wanted to see the head he said no lol. I loved the experience.
My first labor was 12 and a half hours from first contraction to when I had my baby about 9 hours in the hospital She was 7lbs 13oz, and took 25 minutes to push. My second labor was about 10 hours and about 6 hours in the hospital, she was 9lbs 4oz and took less than 5 minutes to push.

I was induced on my due date.

Heck yes I had pain killers! LOL I had shots in my IV and got the epidural. I don't think I'd reccomend the shots if you want to remember everything, but I loved it because I was able to sleep through most of my labor (the nurse told me they wouldn't make me not hurt, they'd just make me not care, and I DIDN'T! lol)

I didn't push very long (10 minutes) so I don't have much to say about that, excpet it was pretty intense. You can try to watch this sort of thing on TV to get used to it, but when it's YOUR point of view instead of a camera's, man, it's completely different.
