The cd i'm trying to play is Comptons Interactive Encyclopedia Version 1.0, its the 1997 edition. It doesn't even start running when i put it in, its makes noises like is, but nothing ever comes up. Obviously, its not that important if it works or not cuz i don't really need it, but i just want to check some of the old music stuff on there. thanks alot, peace

I've already tried auto running it from My Computer, but it does nothing. And when i browse for it on Run I can't really select a certain file for it to open.

If your OS is XP, the cd may not be compatable
After inserting the CD, click on my computer, then click on th drive where the CD is. It should open to show the files on the CD. select the file to run the prgram, and click on that. It may work or it may not

Sometimes, the auto-run feature of CD's doesn't work, so you have to do it manually. . .

Stick the CD in your computer, open My Computer, right click the CD drive, click "Explore" then look for a .EXE file with a name that reflects what you're trying to do: open Comptons Interactive Encyclopedia.

If the CD doesn't show up in My Computer, the CD drive is not reading the disk.

Go to start, and click on run, then select brouse, then select your disc drive from the drop down list at the top. you should then be able to select an AUTORUN, or START, or some .exe file that looks like the main file. then click ok
hope this works

Have a look at the back of the CD, any deep scratches? It seems that there's something wrong with the CD and it's so old that it's not surprising.

do you click on My Computer and select the drive (usually D, or E, sometimes and icon of a CD is displayed); right click and select "play" (in case you had not tried it) that's the way I open & play CDs, DVDs, etc.
