I think it's great when it's done thoughtfully; if you think someone will appreciate something, by all means give it to them regardless of whether it's re-gifted, or used. That's a good way to re-use and re-cycle, which should be acceptable in our society, perhaps even more so than buying new, new, new all the time.
However sometimes people use re-gifting as a way to get rid of their unwanted gifts, and will give *ugly* stuff away regardless of whether they think the receiver will like it any better. That's tacky and inconsiderate.

I have a problem with regifting. I wouldn't want to receive a gift that someone else had gotten. When you know the other person didn't take the time to bother to buy you something, it doesn't feel the same.

I think it's perfectly fine to "recycle" a gift you couldn't use (for whatever reason...wrong fit, duplicate, not needed). HOWEVER, when you store it until you will give it, label who gave it to you so you will not accidently give it to them or to someone where it will be seen by the one who gave it to you. That would be embarrassing and hurtful.

I rarely do that, BUT if its something I'll never use, I sometimes give it to someone who WILL use it, but I dont let the person who gave it to me, know that I gave it away. I feel bad if I do that, but I feel better to know that someone else will get some use out of it.*

It's better than throwing it away, or letting it collect dust. I've had gifts just sitting in my closet for years because I can't bring myself to just throw it out...it just seems like such a waste. The gift given was meant to be used and appreciated. I think it's perfectly fine to re-gift.
Besides, it may have been a re-gift to YOU too! (lol)

I don't think it is wrong. Why hide it or throw it away? And you could always give it as a white elephant.

Certainly not. If someone gave it to you, then it is yours to do with as you wish. That includes giving it to someone else who might appreciate it more than you.

Not good (especially if you give it back to the one who gave it to you).

Not at all. It is just another form of recycling.
