Neuter surgery doesn't extend into the abdomen, so it's really really unlikely he could bleed enough to be life-threatening. But he does need to see a vet ASAP, will probably need antibiotics, an elizabethan (lampshade) collar, and they may or may not stitch it back up, depending on several things. If you call your vet's regular number, most have a message telling you what to do in an emergency. Unless he's gushing blood, you could call first thing in the AM if nobody's available tonight. And DO NOT let him chew or lick at it in the meantime, even if that means someone's gotta sit up with him all night.

See if your vet will use something other than staples. When a dog liked to pull out sutchers at my old vet they would use this purple glue that would dissolve as the wound healed. It's near impossible to chew and actually seemed to cause less trouble down the road. If the vet can't, my only suggestion would be to monitor him as much as possible. There isn't much you can do if a muzzle and an e collar aren't working.

If it's bleeding anything other than a really light trickle, hold direct pressure on the wound until the bleeding stops. Try to keep it clean, bandaged if possible, and keep your dog from licking or biting at it. Keep your dog as calm and as quiet as possible.
Take your dog to the nearest 24 hour vet available. If there are no emergency vets in your area, keep the dog calm and quiet, keep him from licking or biting at the wound, and take him to the vet first thing in the morning!

The vet should have an emergency number to call. Then if they decide to put new stitches in they should give you a thing to put over his head...it looks kinda like a lamp shade...I'm not sure what it's called but your vet will if you ask him about it. My dog needed that after he was nuetered. It was crazy he would try to run but couldn't see the sides of him and he would run into walls and stuff...it sucked but it's what he needed to prevent him from chewing his stitches out.

Apply pressure to stop the bleeding. Don't bother disinfecting... just get him to a vet immediately. Go to an Emergency Vet (yes, they exist... big shock!)... call information if you don't know of one in your area. If for some reason you really do live in the most desolate hicktown in the world that has no Emergency Vet within hundreds of miles, then... stop the bleeding with pressure, disinfect with hydrogen peroxide and neosporin (sp?), and monitor him CONSTANTLY until the vet opens. Also, you know that weird cone they give you? That's what it's for... to keep your dog from getting at his stitches. Put it on him to make sure he can't get to the wound.

Apply pressure to stop the bleeding. Contact vet asap. Monitor bleeding until you can get him help. He will be OK if you keep the bleeding under control. They will just re stitch the opening if the deem it necissary. If it is like only one stitch, and the bleeding stops, it is not to urgent of a thing. Just keep an eye on him.

Go to walmart. They should have very large bandaids that are sticky all the way around, but have that padding stuff in the middle. They're waterproof and when I used them my dog wasn't able to get it off. This, of course, only till you can get to your vet.
