wow, harsh crowd, huh? i don't get the whole babbling on with big words and evolution an all that but what i do get is we are here because of god and what happens after we die is entirely up to how we choose to live our lives here. i honestly don't think that if this were judgment day all these non-believers would be sitting here typing all of their mumbo jumbo about their different gods and such. but it is okay because there will come a day that the non-believers will find out the truth and sadly, it will probably be too late!! bye bye now!!

I'm a non believer, so i here are my explanations
On our existence; the right amount of chemicals came about at the right moment resulting in the earth. From then on, for trillions of years, animals evolved eventually into what we see today.
After we die; exactly like before we were born, nothing.
And what comforts me as I don't believe in God? I don't know, I'm still working that out but I think I coming to realise that I don't need comfort, that its ok if this is all there is. it kinda inspires you to make the most of it :-)

Hello Only1God,
First of all we ask different questions, however, why do I need comfort from a magical imaginary freind?
Also, when I die, I will be just as dead as you were for the first few billion years of the universe. What was it like Only1god? Do you remember?
I am also comforted by the fact that I can't live forever. Ever think about what heaven would be like? After learning everything and experiencing everything, I would want nothing more than to die out of heaven. Therefore, why not just try to get the most out of life? It's worth it.

I am an ex-Catholic that converted to Buddhism. I believe our existence is a matter of pure physics and evolution. I believe we are all interconnected and part of everything, part of the "cosmos" if you will. Our minds are "energy". When our physical bodies are gone, our energy pattern is reborn or "extinguished"(Nirvana, become part of everything again). It is like your life is a drop of water that has splashed out of a river(birth), you drip and roll thru valleys and hills(life) to finally join the river again (death). I am comforted by the the Buddhas teachings that we should live life in the present, because if you are always thinking about the future or past you aren't really living life to the fullest. Death is not the end, it is just change. I find these beliefs very comforting and peaceful. I hope that helps you understand alittle. :)

Existence is the combination of millions of random factors coming together.
Death is the end. What's done with your corpse is open. I prefer burial.
I don't need to have my life "comforted". It is what it is. The successes are mine, as are the failures. I'm quite happy with my life, as it stands right now. Believing in a god wouldn't change that.

Evolution is how we got here it explains our progression from apes into homo sapiens. Where will I go after I don't exist, into the ground I will decompose and become part of the earth. You know what comforts me is my family and friends they don't care what I believe and they support me. they don't agree but they don't try and change me. Why should I feel comforted by a "god" ho condemns those who don't worship him to eternal suffering, that doesn't seem very loving to me. That seems egotistical and stupid. I am fine with being an atheist I see no other alternative maybe one day your eyes will be opened up as mine have and you realize the same thing.

Correction, I do not believe in YOUR God. I have my own faith thank you very much. Do not assume that all "Non-Believers" in your religion are atheists.
I believe that the universe and life unfolded naturally. I have my own beliefs of what the afterlife will be like based on my study of the Poetic Edda. I take comfort in my family and friends and a job well done. My religion, Asatru, does give me strength and helps me feel more connected to my ancestors.

My existence arises from my parents, and back through time to a protoplasmic globule, and will end when I die. My comfort is knowing that I can prove by logic and evidence everything in which I believe, which no religious person can do.

I could go into the Celtic Creation story, or the Native American creation story. but i would be wasting my time.
I believe that the gods put me here, and that they may have used evolution as the process for making my ancestors.
when i die i do not know what faces me, i could be reincarnated to this world to learn more, or my soul may be ready to ascend and take it's place among the ancestors to become a spirit guide to another mortal looking for their path. untill i die i do not know what the next life for me will be, i just know that how i live this life will reflect on my blessings in the next life.

If you do not believe in Odin...what's your story on how you got this existence? Where will go after you don't exist? What comforts your life, when you don’t believe in Odin?
