Yes, too much Calcium will cause constipation. Vitamin C is o.k. because it's water soluble and any excess will be excreted. Calcium intake of over 2,500 mg per day may cause constipation and increase the risk of kidney stones and urinary tract infections. The recommended daily intake for adults is1,200 mg.
Best natural sources for calcium are - milk and milk products, all cheeses, soybeans, tofu, sardines, salmon, peanuts, walnuts, sunflower seeds, dried beans, kale, broccoli and collard greens.

Hi,
It is true that some multi vits may cause constipation because they are rather 'heaty' for the body.
But constipation may be due to a few reasons:
- your diet
- the amount of water you drink
- the current condition of your colon
- the size of your colon
- the shape of your colon
I would suggest that you do an iris scan.
Iridology is the holistic science of looking at the condition of your health by taking a picture of your iris.
As all the nerves and veins running through our body end right at our eyes, we are able to see the condition of our health by just looking at our iris.
Through the iris, you will be able to see the condition of your colon very well and would be understand why you are constipated. The Iris Analyst will also be able to offer you suggestions on how to get rid of this problem
If you are interested, you can email me at verityy@yahoo.com

Follow the instruction stated on the labels on those bottles and you should be alright. Vitamin tablets do not lead to constipation. Only low or lack of fiber will lead to constipation.
Also remember expensive vitamin and mineral do not always mean they are the best.

most definately.......you may be overdoing it with the vitamins and should discuss with your doctor. iron is likely the real problem and can be helped with taking something like colace, a stool softener. you should avoid laxatives, as this will only add to your problem. you want to be careful of taking too many fat soluable vitamins though, these don't get excreted from your body, but are stored in the liver and can cause significant health problems much worse than constipation.

I'm no expert, but I don't think that's true. Some of my good friends take 20 vitamins every day and that doesn't happen to them.

You are taking too many pills. One multi vitamin suxh as Centrum or One a Day will provide you with everything you need. It is a waste of money and could be harmful to take more. If you have constipation, avoid vitamins that contain iron.

No the vitamins should not be the cause unless you are getting lots of iron. Use a stool softener to keep your stools soft like colace aka docusate.
