Knowledge of the Bible is not taught completely. Many people are told to just listen to the pastor, priest etc.

On the other hand many people have read the Bible and choose not to live a Christian life. It's all up to the person.

While that certainly isn't the rule, it does seem, most of the time to be true. I am assuming that when you say Christian you are implying non-denominational Christians & not other Christian faiths like Catholics & J.W.’s, etc. As a Christian everything we learn & know of our faith comes from the Bible, being believed as the true Word of God. So it is part of a Christians everyday life, for every thing…Some say BIBLE means: B.asic I.nstruction B.efore L.eaving E.arth, but that is more of a spoof, all though very true for Christians. It is like the master reference book for life, both physical & spiritual! Here is an excerpt from the book, New Christians Handbook by Max Anders: “The “word of Christ” interpretation is that the filling is essentially the same as “let[ting] the word of Christ dwell in you richly” in Colossians 3:16. The results of both “filling” & “letting the word of Christ dwell in you richly” are identical, leading Bible teachers to believe that the causes are the same. To allow the word of Christ to dwell in us richly, we must read it, study it, memorize it & meditate on it in a spirit of trust & obedience.” As far as I have seen & come to know, no other religion depends so solely on the Bible.

Even other religions that claim to teach from the Bible, usually only take part of it as truth, and most followers of those other religions don't bother to read the Bible for themselves, but they just know what has been taught to them. I have not met many others from different religions that have read the Bible but most of the people I know that have read the Bible are non-denominational Christians. So, like I said I know that many other non-Christians have read the Bible, but the real question should be if you are not a Christian can you really understand what the Bible is teaching?

Christians study the Christian Bible more than other people, so it would seem logical we would know more. However many of us don't sudy it enough.

'They choose to be ignorant. "

No one "chooses to be ignorant". When I was in college, I became involved in Wicca. I thought I knew everything about the Bible too. It wasn't until later that I returned to the Christian religion I realized many of the things I thought I knew about the Bible were just plain wrong.

Because even though the Bible is the inerrant word of God and literally true, word-for-word, it needs interpretation because it looks kind of contradictory and confusing in parts. Without the careful guidance of a practicing Christian, the heathen is likely to make a mistake. (Even worse, he might understand it perfectly the first time, which would vex a Christian mightily.)

Because Christians who are very active, study the Bible on a regular basis, which means they are learning new things about God, and the Bible all the time, which gives them a wider knowledge of those things.

well, according to Christians a nonChristian can know every Bible verse by heart but will never understand their meaning. only a Christian imbued with the Holy Spirit can understand the Bible ...
or so the urban legend goes.

this one doesn't.
I am a "born again" Christian.
many non-believers have studied the Bible more than I have, I am sure.
It is just that the Bible does not make much sense to non-believers because God has not opened their eyes to the Truth.

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness;
but unto us that are saved it is the power of God."
1 Corinthians 1:18

"The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned."
1 Corinthians 2:14 (New International Version)

Depends on what you mean by knowledge. You can quote it chapter and verse and have still never met Jesus face to face. I don't think anyone can understand it clearly without the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
