I believe deeply in God, and believe that He is the redeemer, the only one capable of fixing this out of control world that is fast going to hell in a handbasket. Where not one will slip through the cracks under His watch. However, and I do not speak for all Christians, religions, etc., do not some people use Him as a convenient reason to disengage themselves from becoming part of the solution until He does take control? Just a thought.

Esther, I am not picking on Christians or anyone else. I didn't single out anyone. I don't happen to believe in organized religioin, because it's been my observation that there is good and bad in many of them, excluding those that are just bad.

Understanding religion better should surely tell us better. Though there are so many religions in the world, don't you thing there is something that binds us all together? are we all not a part of the same thing that we are so interested to find out?

I think if god was to come down and help us out with our daily trifles, he would have not given us a brain.
God has given us a brain that can think, which can cause self awareness and which can judge what is right and what is wrong. I believe that religion too preaches peace and kinship among all. So i think religion does not tell us not to help others in distress and nor can it be an excuse to stick our head in the sand and do nothing.

summer: A very well stated question. You are right-on in your query ! Religion to me is just that - a hobby for people to sit back , condemn the unconverted and tell them they are "going to hell", try and save the world, hide their heads in the "sand". Spirituality, on the other hand, involves a relationship with Jesus Christ founded on spirituality. Involves spirit and TRUTH ! It is the catalyst for "doing good works" because of being saved by grace. Reality by definition, is the love of God [Jesus] expressed to fellow man (Love your neighbour) ! All about being involved not detached ! Jesus Christ's answer at His return to the earth: "Come the blessed of my Father and inherit the Kingdom" and His disciples relied, "why will you give us the Kingdom ?" Then, Jesus replied back, "for when I was hungry you fed me, when I was naked you clothed me and when I was lonely in prison, you visited me" ! A Christian can not afford to detach him or her self from the grace of God !!! Christians do have a choice, too !!! More Jesus - Less Religion !!!

What a thing to say about other Christians, if indeed you are one. Do you ever go to church? If you went in to just about any church, anywhere, you would find there are groups of people in that church whose lives are dedicated to helping others. Not only spreading the gospel, but making a difference where they can in their community; visiting those in jail, supporting places where people can go when they are broke or in trouble. I just can't imagine a Christian making that kind of statement that you just did.

That's a good question. However, some people are not in a position to help themselves or society.

Until they learn and are able to do so they will not be of assistance to anyone. God will rise them up as He sees fit, and in His timing not ours.

I certainly hope people don't use Him as an excuse to not help people. Christ was ALL about helping people. We, as His followers, are compelled to do the same, whether it's donating time and/or money to charity, giving to an individual that you see in need, helping victims of natural disaster, or going on a mission trip to help people in impoverished areas. We see the needs of the world, and want to help.

Their are probably lots of people that use God's everlasting love as an excuse to live for themselves. These people have not yet experienced the greatness of God and his love that was expressed in sending his son Jesus to die for us. It is because I am grateful to God that I desire to do what he wants me to; not only because I feel that it is required.

I think majority of us ministers and priests we do a lot of volunteer work in teh comunity. I myself spend close to do not laugh 369 hours a week. Do you know how much money I see??? ZERO. So most of us just do not do nothing, it is those who folllow the religion which do nothing.
