I tried getting my room changed to the quiet floor because I couldn't stand the noise. But they denied my request. I just seem to always be agiated and do know how to relax, especially at night when they won't shut up.

Get some ear plugs for at night. Play music when you're trying to sleep or books on tape. I like the Harry Potter audio books myself. You can download them on a torrent site if you don't want to pay. Take a hot shower before bed. Drink caffeine free herbal tea like camomile tea. Tell your room mates to shut the **** up. If you don't already, start going to the gym regularily to de-stress and help you sleep better. Try to eat healthy, although I know dorm food is just well shaped grease. Realise that the semester is soon ending and you'll be out of there very soon. Invest in off campus housing next year.

White noise will be your new friend. Being that you are a college student in the dorms, you probably would want to just get a fan (and if it is cold point it somewhere where it isn't blowing on someone). That will create a background hum that will down out other background noise.

You can get a fan at wal mart for probably $10. Or you can buy dedicated white noise generators for $50+. Alternatively you can tune a radio to an empty radio station frequency

A lot of offices use this to make things quieter. For instance, you won't hear the person in the next cube on the phone (as much).

Find a CD of music that relaxes you, and listen through headphones. Try talking to your resident advisor about the noise. Perhaps you could come up with some sort of compromise among all of the residents on the floor.

Physical exercise (in the morning if possible) will help reduce stress in many ways. In the evening for relaxation I usually have a hot chocolate and go outside or into a quiet place. The headphones would be a tremenous idea for sleep. Hope you do well.

a young lady I know bought aviation earmuffs to block out all noise. Just not sure where she bought them. A soothing sound machine helps, too. There are several sounds to choose from on the machine. I like white noise. There are also ocean waves, rain, waterfall, etc.

There are some excellent suggestions here. I would also like to add e f t the energy therapy that really helps you to dis-charge negative emotions. I think it would be fabulous teamed up with something like deep breathing, earplugs, and a physical exercise regimen.
