Hi there! Unfortunately, the suggestions for a lighter shade simply won't work. Permanent haircolor (that you purchase from the store shelves) can not lift and lighten another permanent color. It's just not strong enough. If you were to color your hair with a lighter shade at this point, you would only see the difference at the root area, as it has no other permanent color on it. The safest way is to allow the color to grow out and be cut away before using a lighter shade. I know, I know....that'll take forever! So, if you must do something sooner, seek the advice of a stylist. They have stronger products that can either strip the color from the hair or lighten it a bit. My last suggestion would be to put subtle highlights in the hair. There are kits out there that allow you to put as much or as little as you would like. Just make sure that you ALWAYS do a strand test prior to coloring. That's the only sure-fire way to keep yourself from paying mega bucks at a salon!

Try using something with red in it. Like a light auburn brown. That should turn your hair medium brown.

you just have to strip it and die it over or you could just get blonde highlights on the top layer and then have them tone them down to a light brown and if they do them right then your hair will be light brown on the top and then your dark brown underneath(or you could add highlights underneath there too). your hair would be better off that way instead of stripping it cuz it kills your hair

I would start with medium brown highlites and gradually get more and more. You will see a difference, and you wont have to strip your whole head of hair.

You'll need to bleach it if you want to lighten the color. I'd go to a salon, it's hard to do it yourself and not have either damaged or too light.
