I believe the best thing you could do is consult a physician or nutrionist first. The key is often not only what you eat, but the amount which is consumed. But if I were you I would consult a doctor and let them guide you with this.

here is what i think..if you are young and 13 or 14 the best thing to do is go to your doctor and ask what kind of diet you should go on. THe problem with many of these diets is that for one reason or another they may not work..when you receive help from a professional and their advice it can be a lot easier and more helpful because they will inform you what it is that you can work on. Also, sometimes there are certain other things that may cause you to gain weight. if you're young it's best to get help and not go through this alone.

Eat good carbs, not low carbs. Nourish your body thin, instead of starving your body fat. Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic load. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin and healthy. Salt has no calories but makes you fat and burning more calories does not help this fatness.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but I don't think it would be harmful at all. You should try out for sports at school, even if you don't like to play them. Practices will help you get in shape. Exercise on top of a low carb diet will definitely help. If you dont mind giving up carbs then go for it, but otherwise just try to eat smaller portions in meals. Eat lots of fruits and veggies. Also try to stop eating around 8:00 pm or just a couple of hours before you go to bed.

if you eat a lot of carbs now, chances are you will not be able to stick to this diet unless you have this great will power. :)

I think you can eat anything, as long as you start by eating less portions. Substitude sweets, with fruits, and drink lots of bottled water before every meal to reduce hunger. Walk at the least 15 to 20 mintues 4 or 5 times a week, and slowly upgrade that to 30 , 45 mintues ..dont drink anymore sodas, and try to eat mostly with a fork. And i think you will surely start seeing changes. :)

Low carb diets are dangerous, unless you are being monitored by a doctor or dietician, I would steer clear of them. At your age your body needs energy to develop properly inside, especially your brain. Low carb diets can leave you feeling weak, tired and they can affect your thinking and alertness.
You might want to try a Low Gi diet instead.

You should not use weight vs age as a metric to determine your overweight.

The best indictor would be % body fat but for a guy use waist/hips as a metric.

You should look at exercise and developing good eating habits, instead of thinking on a diet

Just eat healthy and don't eat any junk food at all! Throw away or give your junk food to friends so it won't be tempting...
Instead go out and buy fruits or vegatables and unless your really hungry eat some.
Make sure to eat less then you do now.
Excercise more then you do now, for example right now you do say 2 times a week for 1 hour increase it to 3 times a week 1 hour and 30 minutes.
You'll lose weight...

There's nothing wrong with you wanting to get healthier but diet is a nasty word. Just shoot for eating a balanced diet with sensible portions. Lay off the junk food(hard for teens to do) and make sure you get plenty of fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Also make sure you're getting some form of exercise everyday.
