One year about 4 years ago there was this huge trend of folks going on the Atkins diet and I was seeing some tremendous results! I tried it and lost 23 pounds just in my very first month and then my body adjusted and I gained a lot of it back. Now you almost don't hear about it anymore. Hmm. The big thing on it was controlling those carbs and heavy starches. I wonder of the carbs and starches are really that bad? Does anyone know for shure and why?

The whole Idea of this diet is getting rid of complex carbohydrates. Carbs are what feed the fat in our bodies to provide energy so we are able to move. But if no one is burning the energy for the amount of carbs they are taking in, then it doesnt do any good. Increasing fats and red meat definately isn't any healthier. There has to be a healthy balance of carbs, proteins, lipids and exercise to stay at a healthy weight.

Part of the reason you don't hear anything about it anymore is because it was very unhealthy. Also the man who invented it died by his own diet which scared many people away from it.

My sister lost many lbs on it that she couldn't with any other diet. But the second she started the phase 2, she would gain every lb back.

Carbs and starches are not bad in moderation. But most people take it way too far and say that they are bad for you, period.

Did your body adjust, or did you go back to eating simple carbs?

The latest findings on diet confirm Atkin's, tho they still try to spin that away. For many people, white flour and white sugar produce a terrible cycle with floods of insulin being released, triggering hunger and binges. For those people, eliminating simple carbs is the key to health and mental well-being.

If you ADDED weight, you wern't eating properly. You can't just throw a bunch of carbs back in. Did you even read the book???? It is not a diet. It is a way of life!

If you dont want to do low carb, go with whole grain pastas. They are MUCH healthier for you!!

Why not just try controlling calories and eating foods low in fat? That worked for me after I had my son. I'm down to 120 now, and he's not even a year old. He will be in 12 days, though :((
