i received a file that is from office 2007--i have office xp and can not open it i guess there is a converter type thing out there but i can not find it where is it??

Office 2007 is NOT "back compatible." You MAY be able to download a viewer from Microsoft.
... There has been a mostly unwritten rule since the beginning of "internet" information exchange. Make sure that the people to whom you are sending a document has the ability to open the document before you send it, OR include that ability in what you send, i.e. a link to the necessary viewer. This should ALWAYS be followed. Failure to do so is wasting bandwidth, at the recipient's expense, which could be used for good or useful data...
