Like most of your politicians who served, he did it for the brownie points.
As a member of the Skull and Bones Club, Kerry, too, was already marked and chosen to serve as a politician eventually. In fact, the grooming process began when he was about 15 or so.
"Serving" is one thing. Dissing your compadres is just wrong. I am not a military type, but such poor etiquette is just in terribly bad taste.
However, in a culture where a man can be a "hero" for just throwing a ball into a hoop, or hit one out of the park, I suppose he might be considered a "hero" too! But, if Kerry examines his heart, he knows the truth. And a hero is, above all, honest.

Senator John Kerry did NOT earn the Medal of Honor during Vietnam or ever.
That was ex Senator Bob Kerry from Nebraska who earned the MOH as a Navy Seal in Vietnam.

You Dad is incorrect.
John Kerry got a Silver Star for killing a VC teenager who was running away after shooting a B-40 rocket at the boat.
He also got three Purple Hearts, though he was suspiciously missing any 'wound, resulting from enemey action, requiring attention from a medical officer' in all three cases.
The three Purple Hearts allowed him to cut his tour short by 8 months. So he only served 4 mounths in country, of which, 6 weeks was in training at Cam Rhan Bay (the R&R beach).
Calling him a hero is possible only if you mean a hero of the Peoples Republic of North Vietnam.

No is no hero & never has been great. Sorry but your Dad is wrong too. Senator Joseph Kerry got the Medal of Honor but Senator John Kerry never received the Medal of Honor. He often was seen with other Medal of Honor veterans for political photos & stories. He did receive the Silver Star & then came home & organized anti-war rallies where soldiers were vilified. He is a disgrace to all the Military. Recently he implied they were dumb - using them for political reasons while showing them no respect is shameful. Then tried to prove they were dumb but saying it was a badly delivered joke - only those who wanted to believe him ever believed that crock of bull!

I'm sure that John Kerry love his country and is as patriotic as any man. But, what heroic deep has he performed? His testimony before congress was an ambitious, cold calculated move to help launch his political career and it succeeded very well.

Had the American Nation listened and given it more thought, John would now be President and the Middle East conflicts would never have escalated into the war.The American had some ill bred notion that they shouldn't change the Man during time of conflict! Well, looking at where the Middle East is today - the Bush administration, its nothing but a pathetic waste of American and Allied lives.

No. He was an American traitor, and he is a liar, and the most pompous, arrogant person on Capital Hill. I can't believe that he actually represents the people of Massachusetts. I have more faith in my American neighbors. (Many states away.)
Oh yes, and one of those purple hearts was for a cut finger and another was a self-inflicted wound. Not sure about the third, but I think it was legit.

John Kerry betrayed his country. He is a disgrace. He sent thousands of troops to Iraq to die for no other reason than to fatten the pockets of his oil tycoon family. Oh wait, that wasn't John Kerry....
