I'm meeting a local lady, living in Chonburi Provence. She has named the place, so I think she's worried that all I want is bargirls.

What activities can you suggest, to reassure her of my intentions? Should we visit the islands like Koh Larn, or venture inland?

There are many things to do in Pattaya, including things you would probably consider "respectable". For example, Pattaya has:
1. scuba diving opportunities
2. jet ski riding
3. shopping
4. boat tours
5. beaches (several of which are nice for sun bathing and enjoying the water)
6. very reasonably priced restaurants (so long as you eat before the beginnings of the nightlife crowd arrive)
7. traditional (and non-sexual) Thai massage
8. elephant rides
9. golf
10. Traditional Thai dance performances (again, non-sexual/"respectable").

There are many more opportunities. I would suggest the travel guide at the link below, it's the one I used and they don't offer anything but advice on "respectable" things to do.

Good luck!!

Pattaya is famous for nightlife and prostitution, not water sports. You can rent jet skis and do some parasailing, but overall, if you are heading to Pattaya and expect to relax on a beautiful white sand beach, and go swimming/snorkeling in crystal clear blue waters, you will be severely disappointed. There are a few interesting places to visit, but you have to venture outside the city. Consider a day trip to Koh Larn island or to Nong Nooch Tropical Garden. Also, try Koh Chang instead of Samet. It's a lot bigger with a lot more to do.

Look at www.tourismthailand.org for attractions and things to do in Chonburi and Pattaya. There will be plenty to do respectably.

Does it have to be Pattaya? Do you want to sit into a wesps basket? On top Thai-ladies hate the beach (they try to avoid the sun whenever possible to keep their skin "white" on top a serious one doesn't want't to exploid herself in a swimming costume). I rather recommend any other lovely island or ask her opinion.

Swimming at the beach in Pattaya is fun.

Go to some of the nearby islands were there are fewer A gogo bars.
