The child tax credit is in addition to the EITC. Unlike the EITC, it is not refundable though.

The Child Tax Credit just reduces the amount of taxes you owe, it is not a refund. However, there is an Additional Child Tax Credit that we always get because we still have 4 children living at home (under 17 years old). I think you have to have at least 3 children and even if you don't qualify for the Child Tax Credit, you can still qualify for the Additional CTC and actually get a chunk of money back for that one too. So that, in addition to the Earned Income Credit makes a nice little refund for those who have children and are making under $38,000 a year.

They are two separate credits, and if you qualify for both of them, you can take both of them. The child tax credit is not included in the EIC amount.

You always get child tax credit. You only get earned income credit if your income is under a certain amount.
Hope this helps.......

I think it depends on what the amount of your earned income is, but you'd be better off asking your certified tax preparer or the IRS this question.
