First of all, are you sure you're getting all the cavities filled at the same time? Usually a dentist will only do one or two fillings per visit, because they don't like to make too much of your mouth numb at the same time. The only time I've had more than two fillings done at one visit, was because I needed fillings in all my teeth on the top left side of my mouth, so he was numbing that area anyway. But if the cavities are in different areas of your mouth, it's unlikely they'll fill them all at once.

It shouldn't really hurt after, unless the cavities are really deep, in which case you might have some discomfort for a couple of days. I'd recommend that you take some pain killers before you even go to the dentist, so that they'll have kicked in before the novocaine wears off. That way, you should be alright to sing at your concert.

Sorry, it does sound like you have a cavity. Pain on eating sweet things is usually a good indicator of a cavity. But cavities only start to hurt when they are quite big, so you really need to see a dentist as soon as you can and get a filling. It's not that bad, the injection feels like a sharp pinch but after that you're numb so you won't feel any pain, just pressure and there are some weird nosies which can be kind of scary. When you go to the dentist he'll do an examination first and if you do have a cavity you'll have to make another appointment for the filling, so you can talk to the dentist at the first appointment and tell him you're anxious and he should be able to give you something to calm you down. And yes, you can get a white filling in a back tooth but personally I'd recommend amalgam for back teeth, especially if it's only one.

Depending on the size of the cavity will determine how you will feel.

If you visit your dentist every 6 months for cleanings and exams, chances are the decay is minimal and you may not even have to be numb. In this case you'll be fine!

If the decay is deep and you require anesthesia, you may still be numb at 6. This will depend on the anesthesia that is used.

When you go to the dentist explain your situation before the procedure. Your dentist will be understanding and accommidate you.

As for the extractions...you will be numb. You will not feel pain at all. You will feel presure though. You may be out of commission for a day or 2. To relive pain take ibuprofen. In your case it is OK to take 3 or 4 tablets at a time. This is a prescription dose and will aid in pain reduction and inflammation.

You will be instructed not to brush or rinse for 24 hrs. after the extractions. Do not make a sucking motion, like drinking from a straw for the first few days. This will decrease the risk of dry socket.

Dry socket is when the blood clot formed in the extraction site is dislodged and bone is exposed. You will know if this happens b/c it is very painful. It is easily relieved by visiting your dentist who will fill the hole w/ a material that looks like styrofoam.

Good Luck!

Well, it really shouldn't hurt at all. You will probably have novacaine if the cavities are really bad, and that should wear off in about 3 hours. Hopefully in time for the concert.
Getting your teeth pulled is a bit more painful, after the novacaine wears off, but it isn't something that isn't manigible with tylenol or another pain reliever that the dentist might give you. It might take a couple of days to be rid of the pain of having a tooth pulled....

Sweetie, I hate to tell you this but you're going to be in NO shape at all to sing iIf your appointment is at 3 and you have to sing at six. You're going to be at the dentist's office until AT LEAST 4:30 (probably later if you're having 4-5 cavities filled). You won't be in pain, but your mouth is going to be completely numb from the Novocaine and you won't be able to talk, let alone SING.

For the tooth extractions, they're probably going to put you to sleep. It's not that bad, you won't remember a thing. You'll be a little sore but just make sure you do exactly what the dentist says after your extraction.

that'd suck if you were still numb and had to sing 3 hrs later... i'd reschedule this appt to another day... 5 fillings can wait if there is a possibility you could fail your assignment!
