Then close and save the word doc. Start a new word doc and the hold down ctrl again and press your "V" to paste it in the new word doc. now try editing the file again

Really a simple issue.

Next to your num pad, lies the Insert Key. Just press it once and you will see at the bottom of the taskbar that, the word OVR will be disabled.

When the OVR is switched off that means its normal. Pressing the Insert Key again means, word is going to gobble the characters again and you will see the OVR word will be enabled again.

Your Type mode is in Replace. by default it would be in Insert Mode.

There would be one key on the keyboard which would read Insert. It would be above the Del Key on Most keyboard.

Pressing the key would move from Insert Mode to Replace mode and Replace mode to Insert Mode.

If you still need help get back to me.

look at the bottom of the word window, you will find your status bar in which you can see the number of pages etc. if it is not apparent click on view menu and make it appear

then in the status bar you will find small words like EXT HYP etc
search for one of them that says ovr or rep and keep clicking on it until it says INS then try typing again

go to options on the tools menu. click on the edit mode and uncheck overtype mode and uncheck typing replaces selection. This should fix your problem.
