sometimes, people might not be ready to start dating again for a while after a relationship ... but, is it necessarily true , that you won't move on if you don't start to see other people ...?

you dont have to see other people to move on you can go out with friends and just have a good time looking at the menu if you truly loved you ex you will never forget them what i have done is spent lost time with family and friends eventually you will forget or God will put the right person in your path and then it will be very easy to move on

yes and no. it's true that you will not move on anywhere in another relationship because you will constantly be thinking about the one you just had and how much you miss them, wish you were still together, etc. but it is possible to move on, if you become happy with yourself. you realize that you never needed someone else to make you feel whole, and you can do it all on your own. you become independent, no longer afraid of being alone, and you know you can do it. you are happy with yourself. usually this is the time in your life when you meet someone new. and you have the courage to move on in a relationship again.
