What exactly is Scientology?

Mi Porque...Though, I am Christian...it still seems to be interesting especially b/c all of these famous celebrities such as Tom Cruise are Scientologists...where did it even come from...b/c 15 years ago it didn't exist, right?

The Scientology church derives from a program for physical and mental health called Dianetics. It was designed by an American SF writer called L. Ron Hubbard. It was a program based on therapy treathment, with several different levels of therapeutical aid. The higher the level, the higher the cost (!). After some time, I believe it was banned in many countries, even prosecuted by law, so the name was changed into The Scientology Church. A guy above said it: a complete scam!

Here's a factual description for you:

Scientology is an applied religious philosophy. When I say "applied" I mean you actually use it in your life to change or improve existing conditions. It is a very practical religion.
All religions if you learn about them have a basic philosphy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances, and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this, but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does not intrude on anyones faiths of beliefs in the area of God , the Supreme Being, or the Infinite. This area is left totally up to the indivdual. It does not conflict.
You can have no specific religious beliefs and still benefit from it.
And it is only true for you according to your own observation and experience with it.
It is also not a messianic religion. This means there is no worship of messiahs in Scientology.

Scientology is a cult. Their headquarters are an hour away from where I live actually. They walk around in their scientology uniforms and don't even look eye to eye with people. And you cannot walk into their building unless you are a member. I cannot recall any churches like that... Usually they welcome everybody. Can you say cult?
