An idol is the form shaped out of any material made to visually represent a diety one wishes to worship.Now,since G-D has no corporeal form,there is nothing to make an image of.When it was said let me make man in my 'image',was not to be taken litterally.As I imagine,hence,my image.You shall not make idols(to worship).I am a jealous G-D,I am your only G-d.You shall not put anyone before ME.

An idol is something that someone may worship that is not God. It is usually made of wood or valuable metal. But an idol can also be a human being that is worshiped. a sign is not an idol. God is the only God you should worship any other object that you love more then God is considered an idol.

As I was taught, an idol is a false prophet. False prophet being any "greater being" that is not God and claims (or people assume) that they are the true and ultimate....."power" of the world. According to the bible, worshiping idols is a sin and is usually an image and not an actual being. Such as the story in the bible that talks about how Moses left his people for a while and they decided to make a cow, I believe it was, and worship it instead of continuing in believing God, then comes Moses with the 10 commandments.

An idol is an image or other material object representing a deity to which worship is addressed. Today, people like celebrities so much and obsess over their every detail that they nearly worship them and the celebrities become near-idols.
