A lot of times dogs lose hair due to food allergies. She needs to feed him the highest quality food available. This means nothing from the grocery store. She needs to go to Petco and get Natural Balance Allergy formula, or Eagle Pack Allergy Hollistic formula. They are the higest quality food that you can buy and they really aren't that expensive when you take into consideration that the dog will eat less of it because he is getting better nutrition. His condition should improve within four weeks of changing his diet.

I had this same prob with my Jack Russell. It turned out that she had an allergic reaction to wheat. You may want to try Royal Canin Hypoallergenic food or the one I use is Nutro wheat free. It's more expensive, but to have a healthy pet, it's worth it. You can't give any treats or table food for awhile until you notice that the itching has reduced. It also could be other problems too, mange, dry skin, that sort of thing. If it doesn't clear up within a few weeks, you should take him to the vet and have tests done.

You have not given enough information. A lot depends on what kind of dog he is. Is he an indoor or outdoor dog, old or scratching etc.? It is probably not an allergy as true allergies in dogs are less likely. Make sure he is properly and gently bathed it regular intervals. Be sure his shampoo is made for dogs. Review his diet. Chances are he needs a more natural meat based diet. Start feeding him a better brand of dog food such as Iams. Get good recommendations from a local pet store. Consult a vet if his diet is already meat protein based and the bathing recommendation is already in place.
