The purpose is eternal enjoyment. The Lord is perpetually happy.
And to enjoy His transcendental bliss, He expands into many. That many are us, but not in this material bodies, but in our original spiritual bodies. We fall down from our position, and now we are trying to enjoy in these material bodies that bring us only miseries.

He doesn't need a purpose. However, if He didn't exist, neither would anything else.

John Chapter 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

At the next Sabbat when we Draw Down The Sun, I will ask him for you.

You see in Wicca, we know there's a god and a goddess, because we become "possessed" with them in certain rituals.

It's a truly moving experience.

Whoa, Happy Atheist, get a grip! And there are some other people that need to learn resepct for what others believe on here too. ((((raven fuqfest))))

There are many purposes for gods. They originally came about from primitive people to explain the unknown. They continued as a means to keep "the herd" in line. For some, they're an escape from a fear of death, or a means to deal with the hardships of life.

God's purpose for existing
Moses 1:39
For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

God is God, he is just there...it's us that EXIST not him...so why do we exist? in other words why did God create humans? well, it's His way of saying he loves us, He wants us to experience the great journey of life and in return He wants us to love him back...you should read this book, it will clear alot of things out for you, I know it did for me: "the purpose driven life" by Rick Warren...GOOD LUCK

What a great question! It shows you have been thinking...more than a lot of people do.
You evidently believe in God, since He was included in your question..and there is good reason for that because God has made each one of us with a knowledge there is a God, and if you have never learned how to know Him in a personal way, there is an empty spot in your life that only He can fill.
Many people try to fill this "emptiness" with things....or people....which never works. God put it there.

It's hard to write this clearly in a few words....but I will try...and if you have a Bible...it is God's words to you. You have to work a little at it, but God will show you His truth if you really search for it.
God had a plan from the beginning. He created us because he wanted us to choose to love Him. Think about that, because true love for someone else can't be forced..it must be freely given.
And God knew He would have to allow his creation to "choose".

So His plan was pretty amazing. He created Satan...who at one time was an angel, but who wanted to be God himself, and was thrown out of heaven. (He is called Lucifer, in the Bible)...and the serpent who tempted Adam and Eve. When Adam and Eve chose to disobey God, they let sin enter the world...and God had told them "they would surely die"...and what he was referring to was a physical death, and a spiritual death as well. And if you know that part of the story, they were thrown out of Eden and lost everything God had given them. And there was a sentence of "death" put on them....and on everyone born after that.
But God...knowing that would happen...had a plan how to still allow the price of their sin to be paid....by sending His own Son who was sinless, to die in their place. Then all they had to do was admit to Him that they needed this Savior to take their place, and God would look at his Son, instead of their sin....and "redeem" them....for all eternity...and give them "eternal life" in the place of "eternal death".

Our purpose for existing is to love God and for Him to love us.
The bible says "we love Him, because He first loved us!". And if you were the only person in the world, He would still have sent His son to die for you! Awesome isn't it?(That was Jesus)

All this is told in the record He has left for us in His Word...the Bible. And if you want to check it out, read the book of John several times, and the book of Genesis which tells the beginning.

He promises if you search for Him with your whole heart, you will find Him. He wants a personal relationship with you.

I can tell you He is alive...He is real....and He loves you.

"to smight little insects like you and me"

I'm very shocked and offended by many of the answers I'm reading. The gods and goddesses are very real, and have always been here to help us. They have aided in our development throughout or history.

Franklly, I don't see the point in questions like this anyway that are just meant to bash people who believe in a god of somekind.

God doesn't need a purpose. As Uncreated Creator, He simply IS, WAS, and will always BE. His Name is His Description: I AM.
