She tells me that her body just doesn't feel right. She's had a headache for about 2 days now...she says her neck hurts too especially when she moves her head in any direction. She started complaining of her throat hurting today, and also saying her muscles were hurting and she described it as cramping. Any ideas what might cause this? I'm calling the dr. tomorrow, but don't know if I should seek medical attention for her sooner. Please help.

Sounds like it could be the flu. Good thing to go to doc tomorrow he may be able to give her meds to stop it from becoming worse. If her cramping or head hurts to where she is crying. I would take her to ER you never know with kids. Could be strep too but most kids run a fever. Can she put her chin to her chest? If she can't or it hurts really bad to do so it also could be meningitis. You can call her doctors number and they will call you back. So you at least have peace of mind tonight.Good Luck.

neck tension, persistant headache and muscle soreness are signs of meningitis but it could just be a virus too. fever usually accompanies meningitis as does vomiting, confusion, and sometimes seizures.

make sure to have her seen within 24 hours b/c if it is meningitis-it's highly contagious and can become fatal in severe cases. i'm not saying any of this to scare you-just want you to know the facts. if it's a virus-it should clear out within the next couple of days-but have her checked anyways.

if her dr cannot see her tomorrow-take her to the er or the nearest urgent care.

for now just make her comfortable.

-push fluids-you don't want her to get dehydrated. water, gatorade, sprite (or similar), or pedialyte if you can get her to drink it (it has the needed electrolytes to maintain the body's necessary fluid levels)

-give her children's motrin (follow doseage on back of box-based off of weight and age)

-have her take a warm bath to soothe her sore muscles

-suck on ice or hard candies for the sore throat

it's important that she be seen soon so that meningitis can be ruled out. if she does have it-depending on which form (viral or bacterial-bacterial being the worst), she might need hospitalization and strong antibiotics or she'll remain at home with pain meds and extra fluids until the infection is gone.

remember that a mother's instinct is the best way of deciding what to do-although some of us on here are licensed professionals, it's impossible to diagnose anything w/out having the patient directly in front of us. if you feel she is sick enough to not wait 24 hours-please take her to the er.

good luck to you and i hope she feels better

If it is muscles the best book on muscles I have run across is The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
Drink enough water - according to the chief neurologist at UCDavis too little water in your system is like too little oil in your car - the engine can end up seizing up.
Have her eat at least one banana each day I don't imagine she would like molasses instead (too many causes the runs). Massage her back near her spine, shoulders including the front side, her neck (back and front) and have her scratch or rub lightly through her hair for tender spots several times a day until they go away, there are also likely other places on the head

I had Menigitis and it sound like the starting of megingitis!!! Not something to play around with very serious. I didn't get a fever until day 4 of having it. By than I was too sick. I was put in the hospital for 2 weeks and children who got it at the same lake as I did lost there lives.

You need to take her to the E.R!! She will need a spinal tap if they feel it might be the possibility.....Be strong if your there for that. Its very painful and you need to be brave for your daughter. I was 14 when I got mine and my mom watched and started crying cuz I was screaming and crying and I could handle it. Her crying didnt help me. It made me more scared and upset.

I hope your daughter gets the medical attention she needs. Stay on top of it. If one doctors says nothing get a second checkup.

It could be Lyme's Disease or Mono. A blood test will confirm or rule these out. I would take her to the doctor tomorrow.

It probably isn't the flu since she doesn't have a temp. If she gets worse tonight, take her to the ER.

I hope she feels better very soon.

STOP LOOK LISTEN

She has muscular trigger points that are referring pain into those areas.

However, the doctor is an surgeon who is trained in symptoms. If there are no symptoms he or she cannot help you. There is a catagory of symptoms known as differental diagnosis. This results in surgerons cutting flesh when it is not the thing to do.

My practice in therpay, leads me to suggest, remember, no hands on so that I can discover the exact cause, that the muscles known as levator scapulae are a prime cause. There are many muscles that cause these symptoms.

A qualified neuromuscular therapist CNMT should be able to help overcome the pain and suffering.

The human body is totally integrated, bilateral and interdependented. This means that one part impacts its counter part. When one part is impacted, it impacts its counterparts.

This results in a cascade (like an avalance) that overwhelms the body's ability to cope and get on with life.

If you want to test this thinking and experience, using your index finger, put your finger in her belly button and press downward. She will most likely jump off the table and accuse you of abuse. Ask her to put her own finger in her belly button and push. She will suddenly realize (your too) that she has some serious muscle issues.

You need to find a well qualified neruomuscular massage therapist to help her.

Frankly, they are few and far, if this does not work, contact me at www.layingonofhands.biz.

I hate to scare you Honey. I know how scary it is when your kids are sick. But I wouldn't play with this. If it were my child, I would be on my way to the ER right now just to be sure.
It could be menengitis...just because there's no fever present doesn't mean that's not what it is.
Go get her checked right away. :o)

Yeah, I would just take her to the doctor (or ER) as soon as possible. These symptoms have been persitent for quite sometime. It could be a variety of things from menegitis to a sinus infectoin, to even the pandemic flu that is going to hit here before we know it. The best thing to do is to have a PROFESSIONAL check her out.

I hope your little girl gets well soon.

TAKE HER TO THE ER NOW..and have them check for menigitis..all these things are possible symptoms. Even though she doesn't have the fever, i would not take any chances..listen to her they know when they don't feel right..

HOLY COW! The neck symptom is frightning! Take her to ER ASAP! Does she have any small pin prick dots on her arms or hands? Ask her if she can touch her chin to her chest. Go NOW! Never fool around with a neck symptom even without a fever. If it is meningitis, time is everything! Go NOW!
