It can just happen. You can learn to control it, but be very careful. A friend of mine said she went somewhere that was very harsh and wasn't sure she could get back. It frightened her so much that it was her last astral travel experience. Your messing with the occult and it is very unpredictable and at times extremely unpleasant. If I were you, I would stay away from anything this questionable. Why take a chance?

I used to experiment with this myself . I had some success by lying on my back and remaining perfectly still . Dont allow yourself to move a single muscle . You should begin to feel a sensation of floating away from your body in short order .You also will likely begin to feel a tingling or numbness around your body . The sense of rising comes in waves . With each pulse you feel as though you are rising higher and higher , away from your body .
I never had the need to attempt to clear my mind to achieve this effect . It may however be beneficial to you .
I would suggest a dark and quiet room during your attempt .
I gave up before fully realizing the potential of this activity . Your question has renewed an interest in me as to what might be accomplished through this behaivior ?
Good luck .

O.B.E's don't always associate with N.D.E's.
Try looking up the word "Astral projection". It's a very difficult skill to learn and takes time, but once it's sucessful, it can be profitable in many ways.
And I'm speaking from experience
Toward smcdevit: Anybody who refers to these things as the occult must not have a very firm understand of what it actually is. Is your friend a christian? I bet she is. Indeed she has no idea what she's messing with, but not because it's evil or complicated, but because she doesn't want to understand it.

Me personally? I use either fire dance ritual, where I build a fire about 3.5' in diameter and as tall as me, remove all but a pair of shorts made from natural fiber (synthetic would be bad-bad-BAD), and pass my body through the fire dancing to a good deep music until I fall out from hyperthermia and 'go over there'
OR
*cough* Pain inflicted by a trusted friend, usually in the back area of a gay-oriented bar. [I will let your imagination fill in the rest -- nothing extreme, just think the exact details would violate the ToS]

I took ten doses of LSD in 1980 and floated around in space for about 8 hours. I wouldn't recommend it. The easiest way to achieve such a feat is meditation. By the way, you don't GET an out of body experience, you HAVE one. Good luck.

You may not be clairvoyant. ESP subjects are especially prone to these experiences. Relax, if you have any ability to channel you inner energy outside of you normal carbon based housing, it will happen on its on terms.

You won't. When people claim to have near death exsperiences they are not actually dead. The heart may have stopped but the brain is still working. I think that answers your question. I think.

An eye-popping orgasm!!
OK, I assume you mean astral travel, right? Leaving your body to explore the astral plane? Start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astral_projection
Apparently it's one the most difficult things to do but some people do genuinely believe it's possible.

Some claim that it comes with death, but that seems a little extreme if all you want is a test drive.
