The CHI is by far the BEST straightener! And its ceramic plates don't burn your hair or damage it! I never have problems with split ends. My hair stylist said you should put something in your hair to lock in the moisture before you use the straigtener. She reccomended Biosilk. The bottles are like $13 for a small one, but it will last you for MONTHS! You only need to use a teeny tiny amount (less than the size of a dime) and start by applying it on the ends and then work your way up to the top, applying little to none on the roots! It really helps to keep my hair from drying out. In fact, it does the opposite! As long as you take proper care like using a good iron (CHI) and good products (ex. biosilk) your hair should be fine and you can straighten it everyday. The CHI is worth its high price!

Definitely use Biosilk. You can only buy it at salons for the most part. I have a Revlon straightener from walmart that was $20. I use it everyday. My hair is very healthy and I don't have split ends or anything. I have had it for three years. I just use the Biosilk first. I would however like to upgrade my straightener to a thin one now that I have short hair. The Biosilk is in a clear bottle that is curvy and it is the silk therapy you want. It works miracles. You can use it everyday whether you straighten your hair or not.

it depends on the product.
The straightners you see at the mall, the ones for a bout 100 bucks or more, those are the ones worth spending money on. They use something with ceramic plates and negative ions. The negative ions do something with the negative ions in your hair, and by doing that, it allows your hair to retain more moisture. Therefore, your hair is silky, straight , and smooth.
If you are going to save money and spend about 20-30 bucks on one, a few times a week is fine. Just make sure you take care of yoru hair by daily conditioning and once a week DEEP leave in conditioner. Try Garnier Fructis Leave in conditioner. or C.O bigolow's hair mask. CO bigolow can be found at bath and body works. It uses matural herbs and stuff to make your hair naturally gorgeous.
GOOOD LUCK
p.s
it always helps to make sure your hair is dry before straightening. If not, your hair will fry, even if you have those special wet-straight hair straghterner.

Hair damage- you will dry your hair out. It should not be done more than once or twice a week, the less the better. Make sure to use products that protect the hair before you run it thru the flat iron (Chi makes good ones) and deep condition your hair on regular basis.

If you use ceramic straightener [which is a little more expensive], your hair doesn't burn at all. But if you're planning on using it more than twice a week, a moisturizing shampoo & conditioner would be good :D

i've been straightening my hair almost everyday for about 4 years and its true, you do get split ends but i dont use any protective creams on my hair but my hair isnt dry.
you should also try getting a straightener with ceramic plates, they dont burn your hair like metal plates and that itself, is protection on your hair. :)

IF YOU FLAT IRON YOUR HAIR OFTEN, MAKE SURE YOURE USING A PRODUCT MADE FOR FLAT IRONS TO PROTECT YOUR HAIR. SO THAT YOURE BURNING THE PRODUCT OFF OF YOUR HAIR INSTEAD OF THE HA IR ITSELF. I LIKE AQUAGE , BEYOND SHINE. ITS AWESOME AND IT ACTS AS A SHINE SPRAY FOR YOUR HAIR ALSO!! TRY IT OUT. YOU CAN FIND IT IN SALONS!
