(what's the difference in the way it's pronounced?)

'è' is always pronounced like the vowel in the English word 'bet'.

'e' can be realized four different ways:

1) the same as 'è' (usually before 'l' or 'r'): cher
2) as a shwa (like the first letter in the English word 'ago'): besoin
3) silent (e.g., rose)
4) nasal (before 'n' or 'm'): entre

Hope this helps!

The 'e' sound is approximately like a very short 'uh'. It is an open, indistinct vowel called a schwa in linguistics.

The è (accent grave) and ê (accent circonflexe) usually correspond to a short English 'e' as in 'met.'

The é (accent aigu) is the one that is most often pronounced as a long English 'a' as in 'mate' but without the glide into an 'ee' sound at the end. This sound is also spelled 'ai' or 'er' in French.

é sounds like "say" without the "y" sound.
è sounds like "set"
e without an accent may sound like either two, or like the "a" in about.
