after 50??!! what do you need with independence when your life is almost over? j/k but, my answer to your question is 'yes', independence leads to happy living... at any adult age.

Me and my husband used to be really dependent on our parents and family to make us happy, but when we made the most of what our lives were, moved to where we wanted to move, and lived our lives our way, it was SO exhilerating! It felt great to not have to go to all these functions and things like that...just the two of us! We don't owe people money or favors, and we have a WONDERFUL life. I agree totally! It's good to know they're there...but depending on people sucks...it gives you a feeling of worthlessness I think. But that's just my opinion. Being independent and accomplishing something all by yourself is VERY rewarding!

Hi-
I think dependency are of different type .Like when you are a child then you depend on your parents then when you brought up you may depend upon you life partner and in last phase as you talking about in old age you may depend up on your children and i think a person does't live or survive without dependency .In some cases this dependency does't look nice like if you are capable of doing something but you depend on others for that .This makes your impression bad on the society. And I think those people are lucky who gets support of their nearers.
best of luck
and think positive

Its better if we don't depend on anyone for anything but sometimes its un avoidable especially in our old age .we need some one to stay with us otherwise we feel neglected.even though financially we may not depend but emotionally we need the support of family.i feel that being financially independent is most important to lead a happy life.
