If I loved and respected my uncle, I would be polite to her whenever I was in her presence. I would not seek out her friendship but at family events where she happened to be I would not react negatively to anything she said. I would make it all her problem, not mine. There's nothing to be gained by returning hate with more hate. I saw a wonderful quote yesterday that goes: When you hate someone you let them live in your head rent free.
That is so true.

Don't worry about it. I have dealt with this same problem for the past 5 years. I just now spoke to the woman and it was because she was drunk. Just let her come around. If she is the one that hates you and your family then she is the one who has to decide to change her mind. Being nice to her and trying to make her like you isn't going to help anything. She may never change but maybe over time she will let all her issues go. Hope everything works out!
