One major thing that would help is not celebrating rudeness in the media so much. Look at a news talk show, most of the time the people just yell at each other and the host is the referee. Then, of course, there is the Jerry Springer stuff. Then there are the sports stars who curse and fight and are only slightly slapped on the wrist for it. This then leads to them being known as a "tough guy" and raking in millions in sposorships. Movies and TV are laced with profanity (not very polite) and this is emulated by the adoring youth. The tolerance of profanity in the workplace and in media is the door that leads to the more liberal treatment in society of rudeness. I think cleaning up the media and the workplace of rude behavior is the only thing that would help to change society as a whole. Our society is turning in to an animalistic culture of only be concerned with self. Just the other day a friend of mine saw a 4 year old being told to, "Shut the f__k up", by his father in public. Its all quite sad.

An act of God. Seriously, there's nothing you or I or anybody can do to make others do anything. I agree with the previous answers, about setting a good example and maybe - just maybe - one day someone will do a double take and decide to change their own ways.

Keep doing what you believe is right. People still appreciate that. But society accepts rudeness to the point that it's become the norm. It's sad but true. You could always write a book.

You can't change the world. It seems to be human nature that makes most people are like this. You need to get with the flow and stop climbing other peoples mountains.

One thing I do is that if someone is being really obnoxiously rude I state so loudly so everyone around notes how rude they are. I don't know if it helps but I feel better that they just aren't getting away with it and no one notices.

You can't, just continue to do what you do. Perhaps others will return the favor. Don't worry about trying to change the whole world, it's impossible. Just be the good person you say you are.

Require that all able-bodied men over 18 wear a side arm. Believe me, we would se a giant spike in how polite people treat each other......
