As a victim of child rape, I have been depressed for the last 37 years. How did you get rid of your depression you may ask? I take apple cider vinegar, which you can get at your grocers. I take 2 tbls. in an 8 oz. glass of water. 2 times per day. I exercise too. These really work. Pills do not do a thing for me.

There are a lot of quack answers on here. Here are some answers based on science:
Try getting more sunlight or using a lightbox (for SAD or seasonal affective disorder). They are expensive, but really work!!
Turn up the heat in the house and put on a sweater. The FEELING of anxiety is caused by your blood vessels in your extremities constricting- if you are overwarm, that can't happen, so you don't feel very anxious.
Use meditation tapes like guided imagery, progressive muscle relaxation. they seem silly, but they work!!
Get out with friends more. if you don't have any, join a club and MAKE yourself go until you actually want to go. Isolation makes dpression worse.
Get 1/2 hour of exercise a day, and get a little more when the depression and anxiety are really bothering you.
Avoid caffeine. It really increases anxiety. Also, some cold remedies (like sudafed) can cause anxiety/agitation.
Quit the pills. You will have to taper them off, and expect rebound anxiety and maybe restless legs and other problems. You may as well booze it than take percocet and xanax. If you think drinking booze for anxiety is bad, well, you're doing the same thing.
Get counseling. Cognitive-behavioral is the current gold standard.
If your depression is severe (thinking suicide) then you must see a psychiatrist urgently. Otherwise, if you're sort of functioning, see a doctor about tapering off those meds with the fewest withdrawal problems, and try those things above. If they don't work, then you will need psychiatric medicine.
Don't blow off these suggestions!!! They really do work, and there is no harm in trying them. There is a lot of scientific support for these things, too.
Good luck!! Been there!!

If you have tried everything as the song says to 'mind your head' and still don't see the picture , try this. The best way to see mental disorders is a series of varying degrees of depression and stress. Mild stress produces an excellent person for creativity and performance. More depression saps the energy and creativity that these people once had as the leave neurosis and become bipolar. There are three levels used to describe Bipolar. Then the imbalance of chemicals made by your own brain plays havoc with the whole control system. The auto brain or lower brain can aggressively access messages that were kept from it earlier. As the depression continues and more and more logic substitutions are made the mind goes into a full psychosis where ideas are disassociated and language decays. The end result of psychosis from severe depression is schizophrenia which has been described as incurable . There are of course are always a few people who have been able to recover mental stability. The greatest learning step required for all levels of depression recovery is to see that society as two groups . Study what you group are in and stay with your own kind to find peace and happiness.

Not just yes, but Hell yes. I am a certified Bach Flower Essence practitioner.
Your depression will take decades to moderate if you go to the shrinks and MDs.
100 years ago, doctor John Bach developed a system of flower treatments that work on such problems.
The first thing you should do is buy rescue remedy and take it four times a day and four drops per treatment. YOu drop it under your tongue.
This may take some weeks. It depends upon how connected you are with your body and emotions.
Once you have improved using rescue remedy, you need to find a Bach practitioner and do muscle testing for the other remedies you need.
THis will heal you like you will never understand. HOwever, how you respond to your world is a complicating factor.
Bach will improve your situation or heal you, depending upon your situation.

First, you have to understand that depression is a illness, it is something that you can't control. The problem with anxiety is that cause you to feel panic, nervous etc, etc., and depression is a bad illness also. It is better to go to a doctor to treat you. Some people stop the medication and goes like that for months and then one day start feeling the symptoms again. If you want to control yourself and think that you can, then you should ask your doctor. Exercise and do something that you like it. Good luck and God bless you.

st. johns wart is supposed to be a natural anti depressant. If youre already taking xanax or percocet for it you may as well try something such as an SSRI such as paxil or lexapro for it. Or some other type of antidepressant such as wellbutrin.
