Ignore all these gung-ho as$h**les. When you go to bootcamp, if you tell them that the army life isn't for you, they'll send you home. It's not dishonorable or OTH discharge. They just send you on your merry way (I don't think you can get back into any of the other branches later though so you may want to check for sure). Don;t ask your recruiter. Find someone who doesn't have anything to gain from you graduating.

Other things that work: if you are mentally unfit or if you are pregnant (of course, you'd have to be of the female persuasion for that to work). But FYI, they do a pregnancy and drug test before you ship out.

BTW, if you haven't raised your hand and sworn in yet (signed a contract with your rank/prospective MOS/number of years agreed to serve, etc.), you're not in the military. If that's the case, just tell them you're no longer interested. They can't do a thing to you.

You can back out ANY time before going to Basic training...even after taking the oath. You take the official oath when you graduate Basic training. Talk to your recruiter but before you do, consider the reasons WHY you want out. I joined the national guard when I was 36 and it was the best decision of my life!! In three years, I have traveled to 7 countries and all across the states. I have met some of the best people and made friends to last a life time. I love my job and it has given me the education I need to get a six-figure income when my 6 short years are up. No...I am not a recruiter (lol), but it is over before you know it and who knows....it could change your life forever.

Oh...and don't go thinking you can get out by "acting crazy". The military can't release you if you are mentally ill. You will be sent to medical and stay there until you are cleared. So instead of being at Basic training for 9 weeks, you could be there nine months or longer. I have seen it!!!

You have not been to basic so there is nothing they can do. You are not committed to the Military at all right now. I don't care what you have signed, Until you show up for basic, you are not their property yet. Also I would really think about that. You will be there Property. It is good for some people but not everyone. My suggestion, honestly, don't go. There are better opportunities out there for an individual than doing every last chore someone demands you to do even though you feel it is wrong or degrading.

You have gotten some pretty mixed advice here. If you haven't taken the oath yet, you aren't in. When you get to BMT you can act crazy, talk about committing suicide, all sorts of stuff. Basically do anything they tell you NOT to do. Believe me, they will put you right out. You might end up with a General Discharge, but I guess you won't be in the National Guard right?
Personally, about the only thing worse than someone who enlists and then backs out is the person back home that sends them a Dear Jane/John letter. I hope you can't get out and that you have to be in and go to Iraq.
I would say Good Luck...but I would be lying.

first I would begin by saying did you go to MEPS and take an oath?? if yes then you ARE technically in the military. Next i would add that you can always fail basic training. That would be a less than honorable discharge. but not dishonorable. Further I would add that you signed up for reason and although I am not sure what that reason was I am curious as to why you changed your mind so quickly, and lastly I would recommend that you talk to your recruiter and see what they say.

It's called failure to adapt and it would not be a dishonorable discharge but they will more than likely give you a hard time. After all you did raise your right hand and took an oath to uphold the Army Values ( Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Integrity and Personal Courage) Not a great start.

When you get to boot camp the first drill sergeant you see. Run upto him and start kissing him. Your gonna go into the National Guard you coward! Its one weekend a month, 2 weeks a year! I sure as **** wouldn't wanna be stuck in a fighting hole with any military person who apparently had a gun held to their head when signing the contract. People like you get good military people killed. Tell them you are gay, smoke weed, tell them youre contemplating suicide! Anything so I won't have to worry about no ***** like you getting me killed

actually, in the National Guard, the day you join, you are immediately accessed.

If you don't show up to drill, most NG units will discharge you with a "unsatisfactory participation" discharge code.

Try acting real crazy. Claim you didn't know what the military was before you joined. Pretend to be communing with tree spirits who want only peace, love and understanding. If all else fails dress like Michael Jackson.

Here is what you do. Be a man and finish your obligation. You are in the military whether you think you are or not. You're just waiting for a ship date to basic and AIT. But you're in. So be a man and do you duty.
