...that Jesus as a "Hound of Heaven" going after former Christians would ever appeal to us? The imagery turns me right off! I'm a Pagan bisexual woman, not an escapee from a maximum-security prison!
I've heard it before, but I'm asking because of Midge's response to this question.

It doesn't affect me very much; I just find it curious that anyone might think that sort of imagery is appealing. It's really not.
And neither are most of the answers I've been getting thus far.

"Hound of Heaven"...now THAT would be a sight wouldn't it. Doesn't appeal to me either but I can imagine that the extreme fundies find it very appealing...so much so that they could be termed as "hounds".

I think Midge was hoping to awaken some dying ember of spiritual life which might remain in the one asking the question. You see, as Christians, we really do believe that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, and He disclosed a fearful fate for all who did not lay hold of the salvation He came to impart at the cost of His own blood. The reference to the Hound of Heaven is based on a famous poem recounted by one who had drifted far from God, yet expressed gratitude over God's persistence in pursuing him even when his faith had waxed cold.
The fate of the apostate is painted as being worse than that of one who had never believed. Jesus said of Judas "It would have been good for that man if he had never been born."
I hope that doesn't come to be the case with you.
If you dare keep an open mind, here's a video that might provoke some thought:

Midge layed it on really strong, but on target in principle.
Saul and Lot in the Old Testament may also be good examples, as well as Israel today. God has committed Himself to the protection of Israel based in their case not because of their righteousness, but because of His promise to them. It is His word at stake and not Israels righteousness or their not accepting their Messiah Yahovah [Jesus]

reading most of these answers is exactly why i won't refer to myself as a christian. christianity has turned itself into hypocrisy. some of these "christians" need to read john 8:7.and how can a religion or belief in anything that makes you a better person be a bad thing? we should all stay on our own path and stop judging each other.

To see what you got out of her response which is clearly about saving you from your sins, and not something sexual, shows a total lack of self control on your part.. its a shame to see a human like yourself degrade yourself to such tactics

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
