Does anyone else see the perversion of people in power (i.e. the Christian majority) complaining about those who are tired of their crap? We, atheists, are the most distrusted group in America (and unfairly so) and Christians have the audacity to turn around and say THEY are being attacked! When every corner you turn you see God this and Jesus that and you're trying to slip your beliefs into my laws, of course I'm going to be on the defensive. You bring it on yourselves and if you want change, then I guess you better get to working at it because YOU are the ones who need to change.

I realize I'm not helping my own cause here with this outburst, but there comes a point when enough is enough. I will attack your beliefs and I will ridicule your religion and I will make fun of every last one of you and maybe one day you will understand what it's like to live in our world. On the bottom. Having so much to contribute to the world yet being held down by dogma.

Now I realize we should be "tolerant of the beliefs of others", but when those beliefs are as cruel, judgemental, and oppressive as Christianity, we are no longer expected to be tolerant, but we are charged with standing up for peace and equality and the pursuit of knowledge.

I hate to add to this, but I have to note the irony of Augustine's response - you don't understand how Christianity is cruel and then gladly damn me to eternal torture in hell?? Point taken.

So what makes you so damn special?

You don't believe in God? FINE
You won't accept Jesus Christ as your Lord & Savior? FINE
You don't want to believe that the Bible is the Word of God? FINE
You don't like Christians? FINE

I along with many others doesn't have a problem with that and
you don't have to change to suit anybody especially to suit Christians but Christians doesn't have to take your abuse and your BS against them either.
You don't want to hear people praying then cover your ears or walk away it is that simple, you don't like to see a cross displayed in public then you can always turn your head or close your eyes and keep moving.
In this country there is such a thing called Freedom of Religion which means that every...

Christian (from all denominations)
Mormon
Jehovah Witness
Catholic
Buddhist
Wiccan
Muslim
Hindus and other creeds here in America has the God given right of the people,by the people and for the people of the United States of America to practice and express ones' faith both privately and publically anywhere in the United States so learn to live with it but if you can't live with it then you can always pack your stuff and get the Hell out of the country and please don't bother coming back and also while you are at it you can take your little separation of Church & State BS that you love so well with you because America doesn't need it nor does it need the ACLU.
People like you and the ACLU is what's really hurting America and if we don't put a stop to the likes of you then sooner or later this country will fall and it will be because of people like you.

its really scarey how people have victimized and deluded themselves into thinking christianity is the Cause of all their problems. How its a Cruel religion and so on. But ill let you in on a little secret. Any failure, Any precieved attack upon yourself because of your beliefs that have hurt you profoundly all this that youre saying that is harming you and holding you back in this world is a self imposed illusion, the hate comforts you it allows you an excuse because youve had a difficult life. But i can attest that ive not had an easy life either. 6 months ago i was almost homeless. I lost everything in my life that was important to me. I never found it easy to find love, get a decent job, or even make it threw a day without getting depressed or angry at some group or organization because i couldnt succeed. I would get made at Black organizations because they pushed quotas in the College i wanted to go to and couldnt because of this. I was mad at our Government for not helping a struggling guy out a little bit in a time of need.. and so much more i was mad at. Finally i got some good advice. You have to let it go. No one hates you because your an atheist. Especially not a Christian. Real Christians do not hate anyone. They hate sin but not the individual. All you have to do is read this thread to see that there is an overwelming sentiment against christians on this board. Read your answers i can guarantee you that there will be more folks agreeing with you than disagreeing. This is what Yahoo answer Christians are talking about when they are saying Christianity is under attack.

Even if you are right, the hate you spewed out in your "question" ? is probably the worst ive seen in a long time. Maybe its time for a self evaluation of your ownself and not worry about what others believe. Improve yourself. Stay positive threw adversity. and youll have a much better chance of success through this life then holding onto hate, and false belief that its something outside yourself thats holding you back and "holding you down". Ive always said that, many times on these boards, people always feel they need to play the victim to validate themselves to pass on blame for their own failures onto someone else because they can not face the truth that they are responsible for themselves your Sucess and failures are on you not on Christians, Blacks, Gays, Liberials, Conservatives, or anyone else for that matter. Thats what i figured out and things today are alot better for me today than ever before.

On another note youve really got to use your head and look at the maturity level of those that use these boards. Some are very thoughtful adults. But there is alot of immature kids too that do not have a complete awareness of themselves yet or their beliefs.. or in some cases even their sexuality. So why are you letting it get to you?

I've met many very nice atheists here who don't resort to ridicule or name-calling. I enjoy talking to them and learning from them. I don't feel persecuted or threatened just because they have their beliefs and I have mine.

I think that some mutual tolerance and attempts to understand the other person's viewpoint might be more effective than attacking, ridiculing, and making fun of someone. That applies to both sides of the issue -- Christian and atheist.

Could you explain why you feel that you're being held down by dogma and are at the bottom of the world? Are your civil rights being violated in some specific legal ways, and if so, how? I'd like to know more about the situation from your perspective.

Europe's awesome like that. So is Australia too, I reckon - or perhaps I'm biased :P. But Australia, although similar to America, is a secular country, and we have proper welfare, health care, no death penalty, etc. America certainly has some issues to work through before they catch up to the rest of the Western world.

Personally I am not a Christian, but I believe that this country was built on Christianity and there has been God and all that on money, in the pledge of allegiance, and many more places. The Christians are not the ones trying to change things, it is those like you that are trying to change things.
I don't see any reason for our country to go in another direction just for a limited few who disagree.

Dear lady,
you are ranting and raving!

So many people are doing the "poor me" thing lately, I think everybody ought to be encouraged to get off the vertiable cross!

Freedom of religion!
We are promised it in the constitiution of these United States.
Choose what you like, but that doesn't mean that everybody is going to behave "grown up"
about it. It's a fact of life.

Don't blame Jesus.

Just see the bigot as the bigot.
Just recognize the snob as the snob.
Bless them and be on your way.

Talk about a poor me attitude. To purposely go out of your way to attack, mock and ridicule anothers beliefs shows your true character and for this I pity you. You must lead a lonely existence as I can't imagine friends and laughter surrounding you.

Joining the red mage ovation here...

The bible itself ,sadly, condones this persecution complex.

John 15:20 Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.

2 Timothy 3:12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,...

Matthew 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

It's sad that they had to find a way to make people feel better for believing these stories.

Imagine how I feel as a theist who is vehemently opposed both to atheism and to traditional religion. If you think the atheist walk is tough, try being a liberal theist and getting it from both sides.

EDIT:

Neil, in fact I can imagine situations in which getting it from both sides would be just fine... just not involving philosophical debate...

Yes I get tired of the apparent one sided view of "poor me" when they are the majority here... They ignore the fact that we put up with a lot of crap out of them as well. Not often a majority are the "persecuted" ones...so they think.

Not to sound rude to the good people who do have some sense...but with many others, it's just the way it is...
