I really want to believe in all that 72 virgins stuff, but unfortunately I am not a Muslim, and I'm not planning on becoming a suicide bomber, so that notion is out the window.

When you die, you are dead you know nothing. You sleep until the appointed time.
Ecc 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Did you know about the second death? This is the death that you should be concerned about.
Rev 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy [is] he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

We are spirit beings, we are not the body. The body dies but we don’t. The body is only a tool, a machine, a puppet, a suit of armor or an article of clothing of the spirit entity. It enables us to come to earth and experience in order for us to learn and progress.
Depending on how we lived, we spirit-souls might roam the earth for a while or ascend directly to the Spirit Worlds, one of the “many mansions” referred to by Jesus. There we recollect all that we have experienced, assess and evaluate what we have learned, if we have accomplished our mission in our last incarnation. Then we plan again for our next incarnation or day in spirit class and resolve to do better next time around.
Eventually, however, after many eternities, we will graduate from the lessons of earth. Then, we will have merited entry into God’s heaven or the Nirvanas that the Buddhists teach. Spirit survives the death of the physical body. Life continues forever unto spiritual perfection.

I believe that if we don't just die and that's it (which is certainly nothing to be feared), reincarnation is a likely possibility. So many other things in the universe go through cycles. Why not an individual existence?
But I also think that whatever the afterlife is, we can no more comprehend it than my cat can comprehend where cat food REALLY comes from. It's simply so far above/beyond our current level of functioning that we can't imagine it. Whether that possibility is a comfort or a cause for anxiety is debatable.

when a person dies their soul dies with them, there is no part of a person that lives on to go to some other place than this planet that we inhabit. (Ezekiel18:4)tells us that the soul that is sinning will die, When God told Adam and Eve that if they disobeyed God they would die, and the punishment for their sin was death, yet if they were to live on this would not be a punishment, at all and Adam and Eve would still be alive today, but they are not they did die just as God told them they would, but they believed satan instead, the lie he told them, he is further extending to humans living today in the belief that people live on in some part of them living onyet people still believe satan's lie even though the Bible tels us definately that this lie is not true, and so they are misled to believe this lie that worked so well for him in the beginning it is no wonder that the Bible calls satan a manslayer(John8:44)But just because the soul dies does that mean that it's over forever? No for in the Bible God promises to do away with death and sickness forever, he actually says that he will swallow up death and take away our tears(Revelation21:4)This is one of my favourite scriptures because of the promises in there. Almighty God has the power and the desire to do what he promisses to do, and he will do so in the near future!

I don't usually think about death. I'm usually too busy living. But I *think* that once we die that's it. But I could be wrong...there may be some other sort of plane of existance where our souls go. I don't believe in heaven or hell but I am what you could call a weak atheist. I don't believe in god but I am open to the fact that there could be some sort of afterlife.

The death of the body is the beginning of the life of our soul in the spiritual world of God. Heavenly bliss and hellish fire are depending on the fruit of our actions on earth, and especially the acceptance of the One True God.

I think we join all the other souls and become part of the ocean of souls. Meaning we're all like droplets of water in an ocean. We all exist seperatly, and can seperate but mostly are one. I think this is God. And I think it includes animals and all spirits. It is neutral/good.

I don't think there is a soul, you die and that's it. Everything in this universe dies, from galaxies to stars, from planets to live all are born live and die.

If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)
