She is 2 years old and I was told to put her on an iron suppliment vitamin. Well, she hates them. So I was wondering, does anyone know of any iron rich foods that would help? She will eat just about anything.(except vitamins of course). Thanx in advance.

It's difficult to improve iron deficiency without supplements.

Our son had the same problem at 10 mo. He rejected liquid supplements from drug store shelves - so many unnatural things added, too. We went to the health food store and found liquid iron replacement that was all food and herb derived. I think it was called "Floridex with Added Iron" or some thing like that. He loved it.

Most of the healthy cereals, such as wheat bran and Cherrios (the unsweetened one) have a good source of iron. Some other high iron sources are turkey, beans, rice, apricots and figs. Also, if you serve these foods with vitamin C on the side, such as orange juice, it will help with the iron absorption. Please do be careful if giving iron supplements, as too much iron is toxic and can have serious side-effects.

Red meat, fish, poultry, tofu, beans, peas, dried fruits (like raisins, peaches, etc.), darky leafy vegetables like spinach, and whole grain products are good sources of iron. Plus, if she drinks it with orange juice, this helps absorbs the iron better.
