get to the nice guys first, as a friend or whatever, that helps.
and as ^ said, it's hard to take advantage of smart nice guys.

I honestly wish I could give you an answer to that, unfortunately too many ladies give the good girls a bad name. They are sweet and nice and lead them on, then once they have them *bam* they change or worse tell them that they really don't want to see them. I have noticed that this usually happens after a guy spoils a lady a little then backs off on it.
I have a male friend dealing with the same issue, he is so nice and sweet but girls just avoid him because his smile isn't nice. How is that for shallow?

No one can take an advantage of you if you don't let them. Only you can set up the stop signs and once someone goes pass your stop sign it is up to you to take action.
If you don't take action then it is you who is allowing someone to take an advantage of you. Stand up for yourself and say no and mean no. Stand up for yourself and know how much is enough.
People don't take advantage of us, we allow them to do things to us. If you want respect you have to demand respect. If you don't care about your own heart, why should anyone else.
So the next time you find yourself feeling like you are being taken advantage of, do something about it. You'll be surprise how much control you'll have.

Grow a spine.
Learn how to tell someone "no". You can usually tell when someone is using you. Just don't do everything that she asks, unless you would still be doing the same thing if she were an ugly GUY asking you to do the same thing.
