I was wondering, if medically speaking the UV rays from the sun has any effect on color or fullness of my hair. I noticed that before i started covering my hair for religious purposes my fair color was alot more vibrant and it seemed fuller....but as time went on and i started covering my hair most of the time i saw the color start to fade and my hair seemed thinner and it fell out easier....can lack of sunlight have this effect on hair?

I am a nurse and I have never heard of any medical reasons...but doctors say that sunlight always makes a body healthier, but don't overdo it! My hair lightens in the summer and is ALOT less greasy. If you get too much sunlight it'll dry out and be really frizzy looking, but mine always looks better in the summer, so you're probably right! LOL!

Yes it can. The sun can dry your hair and cause it to change color. As we know people who have spent generations in Africa have dry hair. This is the reason people wear hair covers in hot and arid lands. It would be good for your hair to have some sunlight. Sunlight helps you, but too much of sunlight is lethal to skin and hair.

Sunlight damges your hair just like everthing else that is exposed to it.
However you do need small amounts to live ...vitamin d is very important for skin and hair growth so i suggest you use a vitamin d lamp to avoid UVA-UVB but keep the healthy effects .

um.. i don't know about that but i do know that the sun can make your hair lighter. that's what happened to me. lik one strand of my hair was red and another one was orange. well back to the point. sunlight can also give your spit-ends. the heat will do that to your hair (at least i think it will....cuz straightening and curling your hair alot will give your spit-ends)
