I'm looking a cursive or semi-cursive calligraphy script.

Now I know Chinese calligraphy, Japanese Kanji calligraphy, and Korean Hanja calligraphy all use Chinese characters and are essentially the same thing. What I want to know is whether there are variations between the languages...ie Do they input native Japanese or native Korean characters into the caligraphy or is it entirely Chinese characters?

Purely the traditional Chinese character is the choice for the calligrapher. The difference between the Japanese and Koreans from the purist would be the stroke order. Chinese are very strict about that...and they can tell if the order is wrong, even though I can't most of the time.

Yes there are variations among these languages. Chinese calligraphy is written in Chinese characters, which is the only form of written Chinese. Japanese characters are composed of Hiragana, Katagana and Kanji. Kanji is actually Chinese characters so only Kanji can be put into the calligraphy. As for Korean, the written form of the language is Hangul. But you can see Hanja, which is also Chinese characters occasionally appear in Korea. Therefore, calligraphy is only written in Chinese characters(which is called Kanji in Japanese and Hanja in Korean) and no other form of Japanese and Korean is input.

I am Chinese and know some Japanese and Korean. Hope it helps.

I think in Japanese, they use a mix of katakana and Chinese or just hirogana. In Korea, they use to use only Chinese until Mid Chosun Period where they developed the Korean native Hangul script, which was used along with Chinese, but now I think they only use Hangul.

all kanji look like hiragana in grass script. ppl do write 'standard japanese' with grass/running scripts(esp the latter), but I think 古文 or 漢文 is more common for decorative writing.
