how to give up things to be closer to God without feeling like youre doing it for the benefit of it?

How can i give up the guy that i like (that is distracting me from God) without feeling like i'm going to benefit a lot from it.. and just doing because it is God's will.

It's hard to sacrifice the one that i love... but i keep convincing myself that GOd is going to bless me a whole lot. How can i just.. do it for God.. not me?

Hey girl! I have been going thru the same basic thing! Can I please share with you what I have been doing? I find that by not communicating (except a tiny bit if/when we come across each other), that helps. My ex-bf distracted me from God too. Yes, if the guy is distracting you from God, it is for the best, to not be with your bf. It doesn't feel like it still at times, but by talking to God more, reading His Word more, that does hlep-a lot. It's okay to be yourself with God. He knows exactly what you are feeling, feels it with you too. You and I are not the only ones in this whole world that has not/is not /will not be/going thru this. So, as we get stronger, we will be that much more able to help others. Take care.
