All Christians, not just catholics, go to church in order to worship and praise God as a community, hear the Word of God, hear a homily on how the reading applies to everyday life, and to receive the Body and Blood of Christ so that WE may be the Body of Christ.

We are all connected in teh Body of Christ. The Catholic faith is not a "God and me" faith, but a "God and US" faith. We have a relationship with Jesus Christ and a relationship with each other. We pray for one another and give moral, physical, and monetary support to one another.

BTW, ordinary Catholics go to church every Sunday. HARDCORE Catholics go to Mass every DAY. Yes, a person can go to Mass and receive the Body and Blood of Christ EVERY DAY.

In a country of next-door strangers, it should be obvious: to attempt to create a community by getting to know other people.
