You dont stop the dog from chewing.. you train the dog what is acceptable to chew on and what is not. Dogs need to chew in order to clean their teeth and excercise their jaw and also to help shed their baby teeth and align their adult teeth. All you have to do is provide toys for your dog and encourage the dog to use the toys and not your furniture, shoes etc. It is simple.. when the dog chews something they are not supposed to, you take it away while scolding the dog and then replace it with a chew toy and praise the dog.

Well playful puppies or mature dogs may be healthier
from chewing. This is their best attribute. Dogs in nature taste
lots of bones, and bits of food. They like to taste. This action
makes it a treat and a practice at many kennels. We use the
tasting pens for dogs that are world champion top breeders
both for suluki, beagles, even terriers because they are now
domestic. What they chew is part of what they become.

Keep the treats in mind should be what is applied to the breed.

Go to pet store and get a rubber ball that has a hole in the top of it and fill the ball with some small treats that the dog will be able to get out of the hole.. put some peanut butter on some of the treats this will keep him busy and take is mind off chewing.

Hi, I have a awesome solution. Go to a petsmart, or petco some type of pet store and look for bitter apple. It is non toxic, totally safe but tastes awful! I was told to spray it on what ever your dog is chewing on (example.. couch, table legs, etc,) and they will go to chew on it and they wont like the tast and stop. Or if he/she is really stubborn when you see him chewing on what ever it is spray his mouth. Not inside but a bit on the out side and trust me he will immediately lick his lips and make a funny face and wont like it. Do that a few times and the problem should be cured. And its cheep... like 6-8 dollars and it lasts for ever. It also works great for dogs that bite. Good luck hope it helps.

Give your dog toys that are acceptable for him/her to chew on....also, if you find they are begining to turn their chewing attention to your shoes/woodwork/furniture ect...get either some bitter apple spray (at your pet supply store) and spray that on what you dont want your puppy to chew on (they dont like the taste) or you can lightly sprinkle some caynne (sorry spelling) pepper on the items that fido has taken a liking too...the taste of the pepper will keep him/her from going back. Good luck...
