Al Gore has spoken: The world must embrace a "carbon-neutral lifestyle." To do otherwise, he says, will result in a cataclysmic catastrophe. "Humanity is sitting on a ticking time bomb," warns the website for his film, An Inconvenient Truth. "We have just 10 years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tailspin." and yet he has four houses ; a 10,000 sf, 20 room, 8 bathroom mansion in Nashville (just for Tipper and him) but that's not enough, they also have a 4,000 sf home in Arlington, VA, a home in Carthage, TN and a BRAND new high rise condo in San Mancisco. Additionally he flies around in a private jet, doesn't drive a hybrid and has mineral rights ($20k per month from Pasminco Zinc Mines) to the zinc mine that is under his house - this mine pollutes the local ground water. The issue here is not simply Gore's hypocrisy; it's a question of credibility. If he genuinely believes the apocalyptic vision he has put forth and calls for radical changes in the way other people live, why hasn't he made any radical change in his life? Giving up the zinc mine or one of his homes is not asking much, given that he wants the rest of us to radically change our lives.

To add to his lack of credibility:
120 minutes of "An Inconvenient Truth" contains 100 minutes of fear inducing or warm and fuzzy fluff. Of the 20 remaining minutes of 'information' 10 minutes are factual, but don't support any argument of man-made global warming. 9 of the remaining 10 minutes are duplicitous representations of fact such as the arctic ice thickness graph that is titled "arctic ice thickness" yet is data from a single location. the remaining minute is credits. Gore must be aware of this., as he ain't stupid. Maybe he feels the end will justify the means.
added: how can these Gore fans rationalize Gore's overt consumption (on his scale WTF?)? I shake my head in dismay.

I thought the inconvenient truth was an excellent information source based on facts, statistics, and scientific reasons on why global warming exists and what is going to happen as a result. I have heard people saying things about his lifestyle as you did in your question but I haven't researched it enough to know if in deed it's the truth or if it's just people talking. I'm assuming there is some truth behind what you're saying. But at the same time I took the message of the movie seriously. I think a lot of people did. So, let's hope that all the people that he did reach from his film make some positive changes to help the environment even if he's not going to.

Sounds like a lot people enjoy using their personal biases to deny information they just don't want to hear.
"What, give up my SUV and my McMansion? But, Al Gore is such a hypocrite -- he takes private jets and lives in four houses! Well, then, I just won't do a damn thing about changing the way I impact the environment until he sells 3 houses and starts flying Southwest, dammit!"
The argument is weak and cowardly. Yes, Gore has a lot. Maybe we should petition him to scale down. I would get behind that. But to do nothing about what's addressed in "An Inconvenient Truth" -- or thousands of other sources of information on the subject -- because Gore is a rich b*stard... Well, like I said, it's weak.
Many global or national efforts to make a change have rich b*stards leading the front. Would you deny the existence of poverty and hunger in Africa because Bono is rich? Should that stop you from trying to make a positive change? According to a LOT of people responding to this question, that's deterrent enough. And that's sad.
And as for your statement: "given that he wants the rest of us to radically change our lives." Buying twisty lightbulbs and walking more constitutes a radical change in lifestyle? No wonder you (and some of the other answerers) are so pissed off.

You're talking about the same Al Gore whose family made their money selling tobacco and then he turned around and railed against it when he ran for President?
The same Al Gore whose wife spearheaded the PMRC and then campaigned against censorship when he ran for President?
Short answer is that, like most politicians who've reached his level, he's a hypocrite. In Gore's case, he's a hypocrite who (like most of his fellow limousine liberals) has become accustomed to having power and influence and using them to scare and bully people who don't know any better into doing what he wants.
In 10 years, when all of his cries that the sky was falling are eventually proven to be wrong, he'll claim that the reason that things didn't turn out the way he predicted were because people heeded his warnings (despite the fact that no one will have done anything).
As for his "movie", he's pandering to an audience that knows very little about how the climate actually works. I was watching an episode of Nova recently which dealt about the upcoming change in the Earth's magnetic field. I almost turned it off after the first 5 minutes because the introduction carried no science, it was all propaganda aimed at the uninformed. It eventually got back on track, but someone who didn't know the facts could have easily gotten the wrong idea.

he's hiding in his 40 room residing house. you understand the only which makes use of one thousand gallons of oil an afternoon to warmth. the only which has a 20000 squarefoot heated storage that he shops his 2 Hummers and three SUV s in. at the same time as he's not hiding there he's on his inner most jet vacationing to lecture about international Warming and what we the small people can to do to a lot less our consequences and use a lot less fossil gas. per chance if he can convince adequate people he will not in any respect should be stricken about replacing his personal way of existence because him on my own gained't have a result and there'll be a adequate provide.

Did you ever get the feeling that some people just like to believe in something. It doesn't really matter if it is a bunch of idiocy from an insane politician who thinks love story was written about him and Tipper and that he invented the Internet. No, what is important is to believe in a real cause. Their excusing his hypocrisy leaves me breathless with my jaw hanging on the keyboard. It sure shows who and what they really are. Don't these Kool-Aid drinkers have any care in the world for the truth???? I just don't understand why so much of our population are really zombies.

Al Gore isn't hiding anything. Yes he has four houses and wouldn't you, if you were in his economic situation? He practices what he preaches on his scale and he is asking Americans to make minor, simple changes on their scales, changes that don't even take that much effort or discomfort to our over consumption habits. Awareness of one's impact on environment is not infringement on our "personal freedom" its responsibility to our collective nation and nations. Little things like changing light bulbs Gore, says can make a big difference.
yada yada yada with your rhetoric I have heard this before its the excuse the opposition is using, shame on you.

Al Gore is a politician. Politicians are scumbags. Most celebrities are like that too. They have a pet cause like the environment or poverty, then they go get on their mega yacht and set some coral reefs on fire or whatever it is they do.

Boy you know more about Gore's life than he does. What grocery store scandal sheet are you getting all of your information. If by chance you are right, and you are not. Why would you be the only one to pick up on this. There are thousands of reporters that would like nothing better than to find this information out about him. What in this Gods Green Earth makes you better and smarter than them??????????
